Ford exec compares Taurus design to ...
Doh! Homer Simpson:
Separated at birth: Ford Taurus and Homer Simpson
The Associated Press
DETROIT — Belittling your product probably isn’t a great corporate marketing strategy, but two top Ford Motor Co. executives recently have taken to criticizing the looks of the new Taurus sedan. One even compared its basic design to doofus cartoon character Homer Simpson.
While speaking in Detroit this month, CEO Alan Mulally and Derrick Kuzak, head of global product development, separately took shots at the current Taurus, with Kuzak likening its looks to the portly, balding, doughnut-devouring Simpson.

I figure Ford wanted a restart/refresh of their design image. Out with the old, in with the new. Out with Taurus, In with the 500.
Of course I don't know why you would take out the #1 selling car in NA though. Even if you just changed the name. Now just replacing the name back to Taurus is a bad move.

Now when I think of the Taurus I always think of an old SNL Weekend Update when Amy Poehler reported:
"After 21 years and sales of nearly 7 million cars, Ford has announced that it will no longer make the Taurus, forcing many thirtysomethings to find a new way to show the world they've given up on their dreams."
