Only 3.5 Percent after this Sell-Buy back...

I heard 'gossip' that Mazda were not keen and would/will not sell FORD their SKY Technology or SKY engines FULL-STOP.

WHY...Because FORD gave NOTHING towards their SKY Development costs..

So if this is true and it has some resemblance to Fords way of doing business, then I do not blame Mazda at all for taking this stand with FoMoCo.

Bye Bye Ford'ey...

The problem is Mazda is a small company and while Ford has had its ups and downs the two have worked well together.

Mazda will have more control over its destiny now however they won’t be nearly as competitive since they won’t be able to share as easily with powertrains or have as much economy of scale.

I don’t think Mazda can survive completely on its own, and if it needs to don’t expect a rotary to be in the cards.

The 'number' of Ford made or sourced parts used in Mazda's Today is very small number wise, seriously you can count them on one hand.

S2 RX-8, Oil Filler Cap, Brake Switch,Clutch Switch, and Mirror Switch.

A few more in their Piston Engined cars, BUT, don't be so sure of the benefits Ford gave Mazda.

Ford "learned" way more from Mazda than the other way around.

Production wise and Executive wise, they ALL trained at and by Mazda Japan before moving back to Ford US.

To suggest FORD was some great "knight" of Mazda is slightly overblown, YES at the time in late 1970's Mazda had cash flow problems, remember they had the Rotary in almost every model car and still hurting from the 1974 Oil Crisis.
Ford took an opportunity...that is all.
Ford, after all almost went broke themselves just a few short years ago, selling or hocking everything they had, including all the other marques like Volvo,AM,Jaguar.

Mazda was the ONLY brand that returned some equity back to Ford, all their other brands and Ford itself Lost money for nearly a decade..until Mulally's 'cost' restructure.

Mazda and Subaru have the Industries highest customer retention rate (excluding USA), they have a massive loyalty base worldwide.

Provided Mazda design and build the cars their customers want, Mazda will survive just nicely.

The Ford/Mazda relationship was beneficial to both companies, in the past 10 years it was more beneficial to Ford.

What other manufacturer the size of Mazda is out there on its own? Subaru has Fuji and Toyota. Mitsubishi has well Global Mitsubishi and they are barely staying in the US. Suzuki will probably be gone in 10 years and Isuzu already is.

When times get better look for somebody to snap up Mazda.
