Ford slaps 2 turbos on their new 3.5L V6

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/07/d...e-engine-line/

Well to be honest, I really dont care what engines go into Lincolns... but I remember bascho hinted months before that this would happen, and here it is.

400+hp and 400+lb/fts

I hope this goes into a new next gen Mazdaspeed 6.

A little more info on the speed6... The 2.3L block already surpassed 350hp with a bigger turbo minus tuning. how is that possible? well the factory tune runs so rich that after the bigger turbo it is still rich! Tuning devices will hit the market very soon as well.

I am very interested in how the next gen speed6 will be(If they make one). Mazda finally has an engine that can make power. And Ford has something BIgger. Maybe with the skylines, IS-F, etc etc hitting showrooms in the near future, Mazda could release a cheaper super sedan that can hang with them?

I want to see Mazda participate in this horsepower war.

Another thing is that I am curious on what Mazda does with the 2.3L DISI when the current speed3 and speed6 are discontinued. I want to see this engine power more than just the CX-7. (and of course MPV in japan)

looks great. with even Camry and altima approaching 300hp mark, pretty soon 400hp cars are going to be the norm for entry level performance cars.

yeah. though many of the toyota crap is coming up with 278 but the real hp number is some where around 240. toyota is a big fat lair.
anyway, but great to see ford coming out with a TT V6. i think they are aiming for the BMW's twin turbo engines.
hope to see it in a production car soon

I doubt it...the market see's HP wars every so often...I give it a few years and hp ratings will start to go back down...happened after the muscle car era

Mazda isn't any better with what they pulled with the RX8. I believe even the Speed 6 is a bit on the generous side regarding the HP, if you compare it to other cars such as the Legacy GT, which dynos at the similiar WHP on dynos, yet is rated at 243hp (27hp below the Speed 6). It's more like 250-255hp in the Speed 6, not 270. However, the torque is accurate, if not a little underrated.

The 415hp version in that article isn't even the high horsepower version. The engineering test mule we have here is closer to 450 at the wheels. I told you guys that this Duratech 35 is the real thing. It's waay overbuilt like the teksid block 4.6 from the late 90's. I think this engine is going to be a fantastic starting point for tuners in the future.

Can't wait to see it's potential.

I'll be the first to say I didn't think Ford would put that much development into this engine.

It's incredible what they're doing w/this thing.

It'll be at least 5 years before I'm ready for a new car, but Ford needs to drop this in a SVT Fusion with AWD and MTX. I'd definitely be interested in that car.

A detuned version of that engine WAS going in the MKS......but too many people wanted a V8 instead. I agree that SVT can come back from the dead with a powerplant like this one. An SVT Edge with 415hp would nice......I can't see a 415hp SVT Fusion anytime soon....but I would sure like to have one. Hell, bring back the 2-seater T-bird with this engine and it will be a hit. Take it upscale ($10K above the Mustang) and do it right this time and Ford would make a mint. There are people spending as much as $150K for the supercharged '57 at Barret-Jackson.......I'm sure they'd pay $50K for a new light-weight T-bird roadster with 415hp.

That is actually a great idea for the T-bird. The Edge... well... I dunno. Dunno if there is THAT much market for a performance crossover SUV.

They could always do a SVT MKZ with this engine... that'd be pretty hot too... been seeing they driving around. The exterior isn't bad at all. Could be a little more exciting, but at least it isn't ugly.

I'm actually interested in how the tuners are going to mod the MKZ. It's not really a tuners car.....but I'm sure someone will get involved. I think that is one thing that hurt the LS and Thunderbird.....no one ever released a S/C kit for that engine. I loved the LS that I had.......and it would have been UNBELIEVABLE with another 100hp.

450whp is pretty insane... Ford has a "GT-R" engine, now we wait for them to build a GTR.... or let Mazda try it. Bascho, is there any chance that mazda would use this engine in their lineup in the near future?

Good news is.... they are already using the base 3.5 in the next 6 I believe. Would be a much easier project for tuners b/c the mounts etc are already there, much less custom work required.

Snizzle is correct.....the next 6 will have the 3.5 DOHC as well as the CX9. Mazda is not calling it the Duratech 35.....but it's the same engine. I wouldn't be surprised to see a turbo 3.5 as the next MS6 engine in a few years. Maybe not a 400hp version.....but 330-350 would be nice. I guess it all depends on what the horsepower war looks like. The potential is finally there to match whatever anyone else is putting down.
