Nice Harely. The V-ROD is pretty sweet- it's a mechanics dream. When working on one it's like a mechanical was standing behind the engineering saying, "No, don't do that..." when he did something a mehanic wouldn't like.
The V-Twin is the also the first liquid-cooled DOHC engine Harely ever produced, but it was mainly designed by Porsche. It's pretty nice- a guy from the Porsche factory in Germany made a turbo prototype that runs low 8's on pump gas with pretty low boost, too.
Badass bike, and looks a whole lot better than the standard VROD imo

The 240 rear just f-ups the handling of an otherwise decent handling cruiser. Lousy ground clearance anyways. Too bad, the engines are nice, the liquid cooled engines are based off of Harley's failed superbike attempt.
Hey Ike, you should atleast take your license, I'd bet you'd really get into it.

Anyhow, long story short. After years of hemming and hawing about it I lost a very close friend who also happened to be the wife of my best friend (that is his bike) and sister of another friend. I just don't know if I trust myself with a motorcycle, and I know after a starter bike I would get a litre sportbike.

^ I hear ya. It's usually the thought of my two boys that keeps my throttle hand restrained. Plus, I usually boot around on a much slower bike now, keeping the sportbike garaged more often..that urge IS hard to resist.
One thing about motorcycling that differs than sportscars, you usually don't have to go ballistic on 'em to have fun. It's easier to feel a machine's character when you're on a bike. Two years ago I was coerced into flying down to Miami, picking up a Harley and riding the keys for a few days. Slow bike, slow roads, but I still enjoyed it. Something about sitting on a motor that a gearhead can't resist.

I had a CBR 600 for about 8 years, man that was fun. Riding and driving are very different. In a car you are always aware you could F up and still come out fine. On a bike if you F up it's going to hurt, bad, if you are lucky. All it takes is a little wiggle in the back while while leaned over in a big sweeper doing 80 to remind you of that real quick.
I rode alot better than I drive just because there was so much more at stake. You keep that in mind and keep your head on a swivel and you will ride just fine. Just remember that if you ride long enough sooner or later you will lay it down so don't be an idiot and ride in shorts and a T-shirt.
Lastly once you start feeling cocky, splitting lines and **** it's time to sell it.
