Everything is unofficial at this point, but the novel approach to FWD aerodynamics registered a 1:22.623 lap at Willow Springs raceway — only four seconds slower than a track-built Acura NSX running the same day. Track officials are still sifting through the record books, but it's believed Rado has set a new lap record for FWD cars, and that's while dealing with turbocharger issues.
The car may look goofy, but you can't argue with the results. Form following function is a hallmark of racing, and we're happy to see this guy chucking convention on it's ear, damning the aesthetics and putting speed at the forefront of the sport. We're sure his competitors are already taking notes.

I'd like to see the ACTUAL benefit. The article doesn't say anything about him running a slower time without the wing, then putting it on and going faster.
Not saying it doesn't do anything, but I wish that it was known how much it actually works.
Why didn't he just put the wing in the front of the bumper like any regular splitter/lip? Does it have to be that high to do anything? Wouldn't the front wing mess up the effect the rear wing would have since they are basically in-line with each other?
I don't know much about aerodynamics, just trying to comprehend the ugly.

I'm guessing it needs to be that high so he can see, and the downforce on the front of the car would give a FWD more traction.
I agree it looks terrible, but I could see the benefit

I don't see the point.
I believe it is beneficial and boosts the track performance of a FWD car, but I don't see why someone wouldn't just choose a RWD car with a normal spoiler?
This is someon who was trying to be original and instead of being cool, ended up looking like a tard.

World Racing and Chris Rado have been trying to push the limits of time attack since they first busted on the scene with the Scion TC, they are doing anyting they can within the rules to be the fastest team and car in their class on the track...
Yes it does not look pretty, but your talking about a track car here not a street car, so function comes first....
Splitters have not been useless just not the greatest thing in the world to create downforce, im sure hours of wind tunnel and track testing have gone into this setup or it would not be on the car

....it's kind of the reason we do stuff to our cars, even though it would be much easier to do it with a piston engine.
