FT-86 vs MX-5

Toyota should have just gone back to the mid engine sports cars.
I had a MR2 Spyder and it was one of the coolest cars I have ever owned. I wish I still had it, no back seats .

Not to get off topic, but...
This, from a Toyota CE, is why I believe the rotary will be back
I admit though, with that kind of mentality as the driving force behind the FT-86, it does now have my interest enough to probably test drive it. As much as I hate Toyota from my past experiences. If I did buy one, I'd have to go with the subbie brand from personal illogical principle.
“Sometimes, it is a little hard to explain why this kind of a vehicle is needed for the Toyota brand. If you just take the commercial point of view – it won’t make a lot of money, and of course, there are some people who object to that. But as they say, money isn’t everything – especially when it comes to branding.”

MK1 is nice, the new ones aren't.
actually I always seem to say, "damn that thing is ugly" at the newer spyders.
this scion is really nice, if I wasn't so in love with rotary powered cars I'd look into one.
the subbie one isn't as sexy either, but neither is the toyota brand.
I hope they make it, will it be scion anywhere else in the world b/c Toyota has their own model.

I am 6 one and a half and i was surprised how well i fit into the new mx5.. its the perfect size for people my size.. any bigger would be a waste of space.
So many so called MX-5 contenders have all come and gone...
Yes, some look even prettier than the MX-5 (slightly)..
They all claim to be an MX-5 beater, but they don't survive and they are not an MX-5 beater in the end...
Competition is good, but, others just don't get it like Mazda does.
BTW, they "say" the ND MX-5 will be smaller, probably will, but IMO you are only talking mm or eighths of inches.
US market (largest for the MX-5) won't stand for a smaller MX-5...they all want it larger, and for taller 6'2'' owners.

As far as I can tell, the scion and toyota will be the same with different regional branding. There might be slight differences, but they will be pretty much the exact same car. Subaru hasn't released an actual design yet, so you can't really comment on how it will look yet... We get to look forward to the first look at that next week.
It's pretty, I would hope they keep the look and don't toyoterrorize it with beige and bland for production.

^Thanks for that video... It would seem like they're setting it up to be close to finalized for production since both are doing a reveal at the show. It will definitely be interesting to see how things turn out at the show.
I think those are just variations and different stages of the overall design. I'd be quite surprised if Toyota intends on making more than one car based on this platform or if they have significant design changes between countries. It's just a lot more economical if they can produce as many parts in the exact same way.
As far as colors... You can almost always guarantee a silver and black. Considering that every version of the concept has been in red, I'd be surprised if there's not a red option. It probably wont be the exact same red or same quality, but it should be there. I'd assume you can expect a blue option for the subaru... all of that is just a guess, but it seems reasonable.

I had a 1980 Celica GT coupe with the 20R engine 5spd manual and rear wheel drive for a few years. That thing was a blast to drive.
Mine was brown...

I'll have to admit the pics I've seen of the FT-86 are quite impressive thus far. However, when reviewing the 'Official specs', I read the following:
"Front strut, double wishbone rear, 225/40/19 tires all around"
They had me considering one until I read that. Don't plan to own another sports car with a McStrut front suspension again...
