That color really isn't helping it... That doesn't seem like a Toyota color, especially since it's so close to colors seen on vettes and Z's. There's too much going on... I can see it looking alright in black, but mostly because it was tame the look a bit. I'm a little disappointed if that's what it will look like.

I'm going to be curious to see how the import community receives this car and also how all the automotive magazines and blogs report on this car once people actually start driving it.
This car is only marginally more powerful than the RX8 in its stock form. Base power output from the RX8 is about 20 lb ft of torque less but the 197 hp (measured at the flywheel I imagine) will probably be below the 180whp that the RX8 averages from the factory.
With all the comments about the RX8 being a torque-less wonder I'll be interested to see whether blog and magazines throw this car overboard or if they all slobber over it simply because there was so much hype.
Frankly, as much as it pains me to say this, I'd rather take the 2.0L Turbo Genesis Coupe over this car. Even more so considering the Genesis can get snagged with a "track" package.
Does not look like I'll be replacing my RX8 anytime soon.

I believe the car will have a big success with the import community despite its looks and performance(stock). I actually think that with the right mods it might become quite the looker..
I'm also pretty sure there will be a lot of aftermarket parts available as well..
of course all of this will primarily depend on the price..

Lame. I always said it would be lame. I dunno maybe it's the color and weak wheels. With a proper stance it could look good I guess.

I think this will be a 'cult car' much like the RX-8. Some will 'get it' and enjoy what there is there, while others will bemoan the low performance specs. For a buyer, it's really about what you want to do with the car. As a sporty DD, it should be as fun as can be if you aren't a stoplight racer and like to row the gears. For a track addict or an RX-8 driver... it just same old same old ... fun to a point... but no top end speed... no grunt out of the corners. Again fun, but gets to you fairly quickly that you're lacking in some important ways on track.

Instead of bashing the lack of power, styling, etc. Learn to appreciate the fact that one of the biggest (econobox) manufacturers put time and finance into developing a cheap RWD sports coupe; a pretty light one at that. Like how the Miata paved the way for sports cars and raodsters back in 1989, this could rejuvenate the dying cheap sports car market.
I wouldn't think twice to choose the FT-86 over a 350z or Genesis. Toyota and Subaru have done enough R&D into this car to make it a great foundation for being a true sports car. With that said, I presume it's chassis is much more refined than a Genesis and Nissan's bastardized FM platform.

The official weight of the car is 2600 lbs.

How can the official weight be one weight? I doubt all the models weigh the same.

I think the car is bad ***, 9k. If Toyota can succeed where Mazda (arguably) failed with the RX8 and have a massive success with this thing, it could help swing the needle back to "true sports car" popularity again - just as the Miata did.
Understand, I do not mean the RX8 is a failure from any standpoint other than, for whatever reasons, it did not "catch on" the way the car could have. Folks didn't understand or appreciate it. I think it could be different for Toyota and Subaru, if they play their cards right with this car.
The 2nd video posted by Spin9K gives me a lot to think about...

Everybody should watch that video if youre the least bit interested in the mind-set they had designing the car. It sounds like they had their **** together, and created a perfectly balanced approach to building an affordable sports car. I like that.

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks it looks terrible.
Front end is way too long, too busy, and too pinched. The rear looks like they stole the light from the 1st gen Z4. It's also busy, pinched, and has too much overhang. The lifted stance and skinny wheels and tires are terrible (i know it's easily fixable, but still a gripe). The interior is pretty busy, and the red and black looks like typical scion factory rice.

Interesting specs - though the torque figure is a letdown. It be screaming for a turbo......
The latest Fuji engines have a timing chain in place of the awful Subaru belt design, I hope the GT86 got the chain.
Nice and light, with the WRX engine layout, minus it's 4WD weight.
