G37s vs. 335i

olddragger- I love the cayman but dont want to go without back seats.
If I get the 335i I plan on at least doing the JB4 tune which will give me 380 crank hp and 420 ft/lbs I believe for less than $500. Plus with the new chip you can change modes on the fly using the steering wheel controls so you can use the stock map and get close to 30 mpg on the highway and when you wanna have a little fun just up the boost.

I agree with you if I was buying new, but because I'll be getting a used one with the warranty close to up or already up I don't see the point in spending the extra money on the dinan tune for less power than the jb4. I've been researching the 335i's mod potential on the varioius bimmer forums and it seems like most people are fairly happy with the jb4 product. Though if you have any information specifically related to the reliabilty of the 335i with a tune I would greatly appreciate it as I have never owned FI car before. To my knowledge the turbos in the 335i are either mitsuibishi or IMI turbos does anybody have any information on the reliability of these turbos?

I honestly don't know a whole lot about the 335i specific tunes. I just know a lot of people like the fact that there's a warranty with the dinan tune so wanted to be sure you had looked into that. I definitely understand wanting the tune with higher performance. From the quick search I did, it does seem like the JB4 is well liked and great for performance.
While I can't speak for 335i specific reliability, you can always expect that the more you push the engine or components like turbos, the shorter the life span will be. This will vary a lot with the parts though. The stock turbos maxed out on my car don't last nearly as long as some of the aftermarket turbos when maxed out. I would hope that you'd see at least 50k from the turbos... by that time there might be an upgrade that you've been looking for an excuse to buy.
