Fleet average is not the way to reduce gas consumption.

Think about it.

Everyone buys an SUV is that saving gas? But yet the fleet average is over 20mpg.

Alfa Romeo is going to end up starting the trend (although its not exactly fuel efficient and cheap) when they start selling cars here and I expect more companies to do so the same.

I think the our future with cars is gonna feature biofuel, which is supposedly extremely fuel efficient and uses vegetable oil to make it. Let's see what happens.

What, you don't have French cars, Renault, Peugeot, Citroen, there are about 25 models alone.
Daihatsu, Suzuki cars?

My mistakes I didn't mean to say European cars are rebadged, only some Japanese car models are. I would love to see Renault, Peugeot, and Citroen in America. Alfa Romeo is supposedly going to make a comeback so who knows what we'll see in the future. And we do have Suzuki cars don't we?

More precisely, we don't get the good cars.

Europe gets the better Focus and the Mondeo, but we get the best crossovers.

I want to know more about this guy and his engines that run off water? I know that this video has been around for 2-3 years and he is supposedly in negotiations with a major auto manufacturer. This would completely get us off oil, so why not put RND into this? So why dont we hear chit about it? Ahhhhhh greed capitalism at its best.

What I enjoy about all this talk about what comes out the tail pipe of your car is that my other car is a 1968 camaro. Its covered under many other laws, and I can pretty much what ever I want with it. I was using the stock 327ci and I was getting about 15-16mpg through for the most part headers and 3inch pipe.

Personaly I think the gov has FAR too much control over everything, trying to tell car companies what they can and can't sell, emissions here are already about as low as they have ever been, not talking about mpg. My moms' 2001 honda is a near-zero emissions car....can't get much lower than that.

This is a constant battle with people worring about the wrong things. You want to stop using oil from other countries? heres an idea... start drilling in our own country you stupid morons. Simple answer to a simple question, but I think the problem is that the answer is so simple that everyone thinks it can't be right...

Yeah, car enthusiasts will be able to have affordable performance cars--by keeping older cars up and running--just like in the 1980's, if you wanted affordable performance. Every time I read the news lately, it's like a flashback to the 1970's--gasoline that is expensive (not in real dollar terms) and scarce (due to politics, not real scarcity), government decrees vastly changing the automotive landscape (then: muscle cars-->shitboxes, now: SUV's-->eurodiesel hatches), and stagflation.

I will also make the prediction that kit cars and 3-wheeled performance trikes will be increasingly popular. That's because they are exempt from CAFE and crash standards and whatnot. 3-wheeled cars are considered "motorcycles", even if they have enclosed bodies and air conditioning.

shouldn't quote someone thinking they're wrong when you in fact have no clue, though the numbers are a little different then when I did a project on this in high school.
