GMC loyalty?
ok im just kinda angry and the GMC/pontiac dealership near my house. in december of 04 we purchased an 05 yukon denali for my wife OTD was around 65k. we go back august 06 because we are interested in another car from their dealership we owe nothing on the yukon and have bought other cars from them in the past you would think you would get a loyalty discount...no they give you a discount if you own a vehicle other than a GMC and you dont even have to trade it in and on top of that they want to give us less than 30k for a vehicle that cost 65k a little over a year ago.
needless to say we still have the denali which the more my wife drives it the more im hating it and fearing for her safety so alot of times shes driving my 8 or another car (the suspension on the yukon is scary especially when u hit any little bump). im looking around at other GMC dealerships in CA to see what the best deal i can get is my goal is to leave the dealership only paying tax, title and license we shall see

Wow. Talk about huge depreciation in that time!!! I had no idea those things cost that much to start with (I'm not a big fan of SUVs). I have a question, though. If the suspension is "scary" why did you buy it in the first place??

This thread made me frustrated. You paid $65k for a Yukon Denali? A )(*$ing SUV?
That's like 2 Shinka 8's. How could you get a POS like that Denali over two Shinka 8's? Or a M3 and a base 8?
I will never understand why people buy SUVs.

'cuz not everyone wants to drive an 8 or M3.
My mom has had three Avalanches since 2004. She now drives an '07.
I asked her why she would need something so damn big considering it's just her(my father passed away
in 2004).She stated that with nasty Illinois winters and the fact she just feels safer in a larger vehicle.
If it's what she wants and she's happy with it I say "go for it!". Yes it does take about $80-90
to fill it up but it's not going to bankrupt her, she's content and that's all that matters.

maybe when you have a family and have to go grocery shopping or if you are like my wife and go to buy stuff for the bed and end up spending 2k of stuff that wouldnt fit into your 8 you would understand the use of an SUV or maybe you will just get a minivan because those are all the rave.
i would rather be driving my 8 but when you have a family you will understand why the need for a bigger vehicle until that day comes you need to keep worrying about if your steering is straight and true and not worry about SUV's

If you want to haul alot of stuff (including people) get a minivan. Much more comfortable, practical, and they get better gas mileage.
I see SUVs as simple all the worst things about cars rolled into one. Bad mileage? check. Ugly? CHECK. Body roll? Check. Clumsy and cumbersome, zero agility? Check. Expensive? Check.
This is why it boggles me why people would buy such a thing.

Test drive a crossover like the Murano and your opinion on SUVs might change. I've driven the big floaty kind and hated it, but the Murano was spot on for performance and practicality.

65k for a yukon?... even the escalade starts at around 54k.... sounds like you overpaid by a lot. SUV resaleis falling hard right now, so im sorry to say, but you probably wont get much more than what they offered. good luck anyways though!

Okay... Put this in some kind of perspective....
I want to see someone pulling a fully-loaded two-car trailer with generator, A/C, and air compressor behind a mini-van or sports car...
Not Gonna Happen!
Some of us are required to buy a vehicle that is overkill for 90% of what we do, because it is necessary for 10% of what we do.
A Denali or Yukon hauls 6 people comfortably while pulling a 7000 pound trailer (provided you use a weight distributing hitch). The fact that it is driven unloaded and unburdened 90% of the time is a shame, but most of us cannot afford a different vehicle for every day of the week.

Too many people drive truck-based SUVs because they feel safer when all they really need is a wagon, minivan or a crossover.
Gas guzzling, ill handling, roll over prone crap on wheels.
The newer GM SUVs are better than the previous dreck on wheels they were selling.
For 65K though, I would have bought a Honda Pilot and saved some money.

Skillmaker and limepro have made good points.
Most Americans don't use SUV's like they should, but some people really need them. I sold my beloved 8 for a Jeep Liberty Diesel. Why? I move every 3 years and have belongings that I can't afford to wait around for a moving truck to arrive. Before I had a family I could fit everything I owned in my RX8, now it's a different story. Many in my profession are in the exact same boat. While I miss my RX8 everyday I feel I made a good choice for the situation that I am in.
Besides I never got +30 mpg on the highway and had a fully capable 4x4 system in my Mazda Soon I'll be making my own environmentally friendly biodiesel from leftover restaurant grease.
Toyota/Honda hybrids can eat ****.

as for the use we dont use it for all its intended uses every day but we do have a boat that a 4-6cyl minivan wouldnt be able to pull and we live 5 miles from the lake. we want to get rid of it though me personally hate the thing she still likes it but is ready to move on. the GTO is 33k + TTL with rebates it gets down to about 30k. im hoping for the upcoming holiday they have better rebates if i have to finance to get a few K$ off and then just pay off the loan balance i would do that but i would prefer not to.

I'm actually with limepro, i enjoy driving large suv's though i can understand hardly having a use for them, who knows maybe secretly i wanna be a hardcore gangsta. Also the new escalade is bad ***, though pointless utility wise but its the same argue for why some people would spend over 100K on a mercedes 4 door sedan (because if you can you will, thats why there's a market for them)

Hmm...that is some serious dealer markup...MSRPs on those don't get north of 50k, or else they would be trampling on territory occupied by their GM stablemate, the Escalade. There's a method to the pricing scale. Either you're bullshitting or you got screwed big time.
Also, you fear for her safety in a huge Denali? I'd fear for her safety in the 8 more than the Denali. Ever seen a compact car and a fullsize GM SUV get in a fight? The SUV wins, every time. The axle hop isn't THAT bad either...it's a truck remember? I had an 03 Silverado until a couple of weeks ago when I got my 8 and yes it had axle hop but you have to remember its a truck, not a car. It won't handle like a car. It's not a liability, or else you wouldn't see so many on the road.
Oh and your resale sucks because Detriot can't sell cars anymore so they give employee discounts twice yearly which destroys resale. Sticker on my truck in 03 was 28,900, when I last checked the value last month it was a meager 17,400, and that was resale, I was too scared to even look at loan or trade in value. If I had traded it in I would have been hard pressed to get 13 for it.

i know about axle hop i have 2 denalis an expedition and a navigator but in 1 of the denalis it is 10x worse than the others i mean it will throw you off course from just a small bump.
as for getting an X5 if i wanted 1 of those i would have bought a mini van as i cant really tell the difference except the brand name.
and hers the black 1 has every option the greenish blue 1 doesnt
