Goodbye RX8... Hello 500

Congrats on the pick up, I wanted one but if memory serves me right it is different than the Euro spec model. Still a car I would consider owning. As for all these why would you buy one? Its a girls car... Hey if its good enough for Michael Schumacher its good enough for me.

I think the whole girls car argument is irrelevant, but **** these cars are not fun to drive at all, I've driven one 500 and one abarth, literally the worst hatches I've driven other than smart fortwos. Out of all the cars you could have gotten for the price...WHY

That's hypocritical... we effin' drive timebombs!
Fiats were really unreliable when they switched from carburettors to "IE" (Iniezione Elettronica... or fuel injection for those who don't speak pasta)
Since the 90's they mostly made very reliable cars, with the due exceptions of course (Alfa...)

I would reply with a long string of positives about my gf's Abarth, but it would be wasted on the bulk of the people who have replied to this thread.
Let me just say this, we both love having the loud little bastard in the garage, along with the RX-8. Both cars deliver up similar amounts of fun, in entirely different ways. She bought it on June 13th of last year, and has put over 6200 miles on it so far.

Only 11 seconds a lap slower than the 8... You should hardly notice it

and it split the rx8 and rx8 r3 for lap times around the same track so at least its in the ballpark handling wise. i still chuckle when I see a 500 driving around town and I occasionally catch myself pointing and shouting "look! there goes a man with no *****"

Some of the ignorance on here is amusing. The majority of you on here have never stepped foot on a track and never will. So those track times mean nothing to you. And the others that are saying the car is for 'a man with no *****' just goes to show how insecure you are. You all the type that worry about what others think of you. I remember that feeling in junior high... And then I grew up.
The forum has been great and it has helped me diagnose some of the rx8 specific issues. Thank you for that. But when it comes to some of the childish remarks and attitudes... I will not miss that.

A FIAT? those cars just look random. Gotta friend with a mini coop and she is dead set on racing the hell out of that car....c'mon, really....
I would definately like racing an FRS on the street...when I get the chance I will.
Dude....don't take it so personal..anyone with a FIAT deserves to be picked on-- I mean...have you seen the lame *** commercial? point made..

Why do people get so caught up in what other people drive? I understand if it's not the car for you or if you have objective reasons to critique the car, but to make personal judgments/attacks about it is really childish. I think this is particularly true when it comes to masculine/feminine comments. If a car is "too feminine" then the guy is also feminine. If the car is "too masculine", people will jump to conclusions about compensating. Do you really depend on a car to prove yourself?
Normally I try not to let these things bother me, but it seems like you're out to prove something in this thread. If your point is that the car is too feminine for you to feel confident driving it, then just say that. Your comparisons of ball size based on cars are not impressing anyone.
I'm glad you seem to be enjoying your car, OP. It's probably not the car I'd personally pick, but not something I'd be afraid to be seen in either. Personally, I see it as one of those cars that walks the line of androgyny. It's sporty enough to appeal to some guys but also has an appeal to women. The thing that matters is you like it and it suits your needs.
As a side note: When reading the criticisms in this thread (and other threads/different cars), I have to wonder if this is one of the main reasons the US market misses out on some cars or gets special US (NA) models. The special NA Mazda6, for example. When reading this thread, it doesn't seem all that shocking that someone would think they need to "beef up" the NA version to make it sell better. That said, a lot of people seemed to be more fond of the version sold elsewhere. Of course the market interest always plays a role, but it sucks when it affects some of our options!

Ohhh..I'm sorry you feel that way...what do you drive, still the gray 8?
I have two sides to this. IMO, the FIAT's are for three classes of people:
1- teenager that momma and daddy got it for because it's cheap and great ongas--no issues with that.
2- Older folks that no longer receive money from their Social Security because of the economy or have been screwedout of a job from their company and can't afford anything but an "economical"car - no issues with that
3- Economical folks that want to save on the environment- no issues withthat.
In any case, I don't have an issue with a FIAT..check out the specks (they even have a sport button-lol) to make you feel slightly close to driving a coolass car as an 8.
Now..with that said, an 8 to a 500 Fiat..yea there's something slighty oddabout that...my question is: would you go from a Corvette to a minivan or aDAEWOO Nubira station wagon C'mon.
My other side is:
To each is own. I have a personal preference to the 8's...but I definately wouldn't down size my 8 to a FIAT, maybe an FRS or a Honda (not a ricer) butsomething that is better on gas and my wallet...hope that was made a little clearer..
And it's chick, not dude
