It's cheaper to import one from the US for Canadians. You can get one on the road for high 40's if you import vs high 40's plus tax if you buy here. That type of **** pisses me off, but at least Subaru honours warranties on US cars up here. Some car companies don't.

Bummer. I'm blessed with a wife that has excellent taste in cars. I think the STI's growing on her, and she likes the silver ASAs MUCH better than the stock gold BBS rims.

When I met her she was driving a black and tan 1992 Miata. When she went looking for a new car in 2004, after much research she narrowed down her choices to a Mazda RX-8 and a Nissan Murano. She ended up doing the practical thing and getting the Murano.

Of course, after driving RX-8s several times, I was hooked. She didn't need much convincing for me to get that one.

I bought the STI when she was at Target. You might want to give that a try.

Exactly. Got the car last Saturday, snowstorm in the forecast for thursday. Ordered rims/tires mounted and balanced on tuesday, they arrived wednesday, and we put them on...

...and then it didn't snow thursday. Oh well.

yeah... you americans are so lucky... its so easy to be able to afford a nice car because they are reasonably priced....STIs, S2000s, 330cis... those are 50k cars up here and no matter if you are in Canada or the US... a 50k car is a 50k car (for eaxample... as this applies at any price level).

You guys are paying 30 odd Gs for an STI..... my Accord is 30Gs and its not even the V6

The Sti never grew on my woman. She thought it was a nice car until she found out how much I paid for it, then suddenly she was like WTF? My parents said same thing, wondering how an Impreza costs that much. They still think I overpaid. lol She understood after I took her for a drive in it, but she then proceeded to tell me she wouldn't pay that kind of money just for performance, and the wing ruins the car. Nice to see you found a woman who understands the beauty of the STI is more inner, not outer, although IMO the 06 is nicer looking looking then my 04. I was looking at the 06 STI, as a possible trade, but then realized it's my daily driver, and would be a waste this soon. I'm looking to unload my 01 S2K, possibly for an 06 this summer. Can't afford to get two new cars, or I'd snag an 06 for the hell of it. I picked up my 04 for $29k, and I know you can't get a brand new STi for that now. If the 06 models were 30k or less, I'd look into it, but I hear invoice is around $31500. Car has definitely gotten the $1500-2k worth of upgrades to make it worth the extra money though. Remember that with those Asa rims, u get what you pay for. Those rims wear down rather quickly. They are cheaply finished, and the brake dust and weather turns them ugly fast. I'm on two years now with mine, and they look worn out already. The perfect winter rim though, so nice choice.

Thanks for the tip on the rims. They'll only see about 5 months of action each year so hopefully they'll hold up.

Wife: "its ok if you take that dumb looking 'handle' at the back off... How much is it? 25k?"

TOD: "try 50k.. its one hell of a performer"....

Wife: "NO WAY IN HELL....I dont care if it can perform better than a vegas act, I'm not paying 50Gs for THAT.... why not just buy a bimmer then"

TOD: "but....but but but........forget it"

So if I buy a STI, EVO, or whatever, and then come up there to Canada, you will give me a quick 5k profit with about a hundred miles on the odometer?

Heh. Sorry to hear it. We got this out of the way before we got married. I explained the following: I buy lots of cars, and I watch lots of hockey. I said that if she could deal with that, we'd be ok.

Oh I did the same with my wife too... she more or less leaves me alone with that stuff.... If she has an issue with a car I want she just wont be paying into it..thats all.. it'll be all me... which is cool. I was just curious what her input was

That's cool. Sucks that you guys north of the border have to pay so much for the same car.

The more I think about the practical aspects of the STI, the happier I am about it. It's got a nice-sized trunk, real back doors, and AWD. I can actually fit in the back seat comfortably without having to scoot the seats forward (I'm 5'9"), so there's plenty of room for our son in back. Plus, he can get out of the back seat all by himself, unlike in the 8 where the front door has to open before we can open the rear door.

Driving the STI has also caused me to appreciate what a NICE car the RX-8 is. It rides nice, it's very smooth, and the steering, shifter and clutch feel very light compared to the STI. It's just a really easy car to drive, and very comfortable.

I know, but for a cheap set of winter wheels to make it the best looking STI he has ever seen is kinda comical

By the way, I'm not saying the car doesn't look good, just found it funny is all.
