You can guarantee that for the first year people will be paying way over MSRP just like every other new sports car introduction. The next year there is a different 'new sports car' to entice the early adopters and the price of the GT-R will normalize.

The Infinity dealers are pissed, not Infinity the company itself.

Playdoh, I like you and all but you really need to stop listening to Autoweek... There is so much bad and wrong info in that mag that it amazes me they're still around. Not saying they're wrong on the GT-R pricing, but I'll be shocked if Nissan doesn't undercut the new M3 by a little.

Although I like the future prospects of the GT-R in terms of performance, I can't stand the looks. It looks heavy and just plain un-sexy.

oh I'm not financing $60k. I know I can put at least $20k down payment by then and call it a retirement present to myself. Not saying that I'm depleting my saving account but I am saving to buy me a nice retirement present in the form of a car, this might be it.

thats why I said ... autoweek again, im skeptical my self. but actually, i think the opposite that it will cost quite a bit more than the M3... I was thinking 70k?
its a class above the M3 in performance, I was actually expecting it to cost more than the Z06... but hey dont kill the messenger. only 1 way to find out... i for one would be very happy if it starts lower than 55k. Autoweek isnt too bad though, they have more news than all the other car news mags and new features updated everyday.

I didn't think about that. It be interesting to see where they put it price wise, specially if Nissan gives the go to a 450z. By looking at the prices of a 2006 M3 $48K-$56K, I'm guessing that the next generation M3 will be in the $50k-$60K price range with the 335i TT filling up the gap between the M3 and the regular 3 series.

60 grand is pretty high for a Nissan. I think the GTRs main competitors will be Shelbys, Camaros and Challengers, all of which will sell for a lot cheaper, even in hi power versions. The new Camaro will probably be a handler also. The GTR is really only a muscle car imo.

I think the 350z already has this roll. GT-R is going for the big boys.

I can't see Americans paying $60k for a Nissan, but then again I'm sure there will be an insane prime time advertising blitz on this car (Super Bowl, World Series, American Idol, etc) before it comes to market so anything can change.

The Corvette also has more than 50 years of history behind it. It's an American icon. The GT-R is a Japanese icon. I'm not saying it won't happen, it's just gonna be a tough sell for Nissan for many Americans. BTW I'm not one of them. I've got my eyes on either the Evo X or new GT-R.

:BUZZZ:
I'm sorry but yuor answer is incorrect.

Toyota introduced the Lexus nameplate in Japan for 2006 with the IS, GS and SC. When the new LS arrives it will join that lineup. This was done for a few reasons... 1. Lexus has achieved a certain level of recognized status... enough that some Japanese were swapping their badges with the Lexus equivelents. 2. Japanese shopping in the upscale market that these models are in would prefer the status of having a Benz or BMW over a mere Toyota. 3. Many Japanese would rather have a Japanese car over a foreign one... availablility of parts being a big reason. I don't know how well Lexus is doing in Japan, but if I was shopping in that market... I wouldn't buy one. In terms of status alone, you are still better off with a BMW or a Benz and in terms of being a "driver's car" BMW, Audi, Alpha Romeo and even some Renault and VW are better buys.

They need a Power Sedan desperately that is going to stir the market.....most people in that range are going to be looking at BMW 740i's and E600 Merc posibly base S500's.
Not some techno-garbage rolling on 4 wheels.....thats where there fustrations need to be focused at. Because right now Infiniti flagship is below the status quo mark!
I don't disagree with you on the need for a new, better Q. Nissan also needs to add a MT option to the M (you can get a MT in the BMW 5 Series!) and also add a M3 and M5 competitor to the lineup eventually.

Last thing I read about the Gt-R was that Nissan was aiming to take on the Carrae (sp? to early) or their GT's.

I'm just happy they are bringing atleast the badge over to the states. Be interesting to see where it place's in the price range though I know its going to be well outa reach for me.

If we're talking performance wise then that's no big deal. The Evo already outperforms the Carrera and ther older GT did as well. If they want to get 70k for the GT-R they need to aim for the 911 Turbo which was what the R32, R33, and R34 was doing.

Now that I got to thinking about it... I'm curious as to how they will market the car in the media. Will they go off the heritage of the GTR name badge, doing a semi historical quickie show of all previous cars then state "..now America gets to share in its glory" or something akin to it. Or treat it like its a brand new car all together name and all.

Strange Top Gear says its aimed at the Subaru rally car wtf?! To me atleast I always thought the Skyline Gt-R was aimed at well possibly the Supra when it was still being made. When I think Nissan I dont think their if you will enemy is Subaru but Toyota if anything. But whateva I got to see their host once more pound the ever living hell out of another car and not baby it like so many "American" shows do hehe.

Sounded to me like Clarkson said the "Sega rally machine," equating it to an arcade car.
