I'm not entirely sure the RX8 had those rims first.

Every car with five spoke wheels and fender vents copied the RX8. Hell even cars from the early 1940's with suicide doors copied the RX8.

this

stock rims from company to company tend to look similar if they have the basic shape/design.

Look at altima SE-R, pontiac G8, acura TL-S

It's not just the rx8 that has the "appearance" that it has had it's rims "copied"

That basic wheel design is pretty much as generic as you can get. It seems as if wheel designs from the past were much more imaginative.

I didn't have any past American wheel designs in mind when I made that comment, lol. Except maybe the ones on the '86 Chevy Celebrity Eurosport I drove when I was 16.

Actually the RX-8 was the first car to have those 5 -spoke wheels. Nissan 350Z had those ugly 7 spoke tube design wheels which they shared with the Maxima SE when it first came out in 2002/03, then copied and started using the RX-8 wheels in 2005/06 on there cars.

Now the new Camaro sports them, I actually like them on the Camaro then the 350Z, the RX-8 styled rims do nothing for it.

Spokes - how original!

I really dislike the new rims that Ford is putting on their new cars. Overstylized rims tend to go out of favor very quickly.
