Mazda Supercar.... Still waiting
Wow way to revive an old thread. Im glad i found it. First off i wanna say that I agree that it would be awesome if Mazda made a supercar.
A supercar is a car that is high on performance AND costs more than what the average person can afford. So in that definition the FD would not be a supercar. But thats not a bad thing. I would classify the FD (along with the NSX and Supra) as Legendary Sports Cars. Class leading performance for sure. Even the RX-8 R3 handles better than most cars upwards of $60,000.
A supercar would be great for Mazda to continue producing rotary cars. With the last year for the RX-8 in the US as 2011 its obvious that emissions and mpg standards are making it hard for them. But a supercar can get around legalities like that because its sold in a low volume. In my opinion, if I was Mazda, I would make a car to compete with Nissan's GT-R - Price it around $90,000 to $110,000 - A naturally aspirated 4 rotor Front-mid engined RWD 2 door. Titanium rotors. 600 hp? maybe make it weigh 2500 pounds? A true GT-R killer!

Still there in the link in his signature.
Looks like he stole it from an STI.
Some people need to be big and flashy while others don't mind being more subtle with their tastes. Nothing wrong with either, after everything is said and done. At the end of it all, its just our opinion on his taste.
He, and others will think it looks fantastic, while the rest of us think it looks like a hideous eyesore, and thank our lucky stars that our car hasn't been desecrated with that attention getter of a rear spoiler.
No one is wrong.
Hell, just look at some of the wheels people put on their RX-8's.
His spoiler looks better than some of those choices.
BC.

Are you kidding me? I didnt take the picture down. it was takin down because it was too big. and no pistons, drive into oblivion? i think you watch too much tv.
So here im thinking. after all these comments about my car. most of them nothing to do with the thread, that RX8Club is actually going to have some real intelligent people. here to support RX-8 and rotary guys alike. refreshing from the **** storm forums with people with different cars argueing because their mustangs are so cool. or that RX-8s are slow. That there evos are better. instead i get a few ******** after my first post in a long time. What gives?
Shame on you guys. Did you lose arguments with other people? then come here butthurt and try to rip on my RX-8 because it has an Evo 9 wing on it? It is not outlandish. ugly. fast and furious, or too big. In fact it is an R3 with a painted matched wing. it was done right. matches the stock body kit. Im in San Diego. so if no pistons thinks hes cool can tell me to drive off a cliff to my face.

And like was said before, just because you like it, doesn't mean that other people will. And I hate to tell you this, but stuffing a huge wing from one brand of car onto a different brand of car is F&F-ish. That's what the who series of movies are about, taking boring vehicles, and stuffing crap on them that doesn't belong, to make the car not look like what it really is.
I'm not sorry that not everyone has the same tastes that you do.
As for supercars, it would have been nice if Mazda released the Furai, or a downgraded version of it, for mass production, but they made a business decision not to do so.
I'm sure they aren't going to do so until they are sufficiently profitable for many years in a row. If you notice, the only car companies that actually make and produce supercars are ones that are insanely profitable. BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi, etc. Car companies that are borderline profitable don't make supercars. Notice how Ford stopped making the Ford GT after only a couple of years.
Would anyone say that the Nissan GT-R really is a supercar?
That's one of the few gray areas, in my opinion.
But, right now, Mazda can't afford a supercar.
Maybe if they are 100% profitable every year between now and 2018, in every world market, they might consider doing it, but not anytime soon, in my opinion.

I feel dirty posting in this long dead thread but my imagination is running wild.
What if mazda made a supercar out of production car parts? or rather tweaked production car parts. Think about it.
The engine could be a 3 rotor variant of the 16x (or what ever the current designation is) with all the bells and whistles. Direct injection, laser ignition, ceramic seals, etc. And prepped for forced induction. Eventually becoming the production next gen rotary.
FI could be an electrically assisted turbo. What I mean is a turbo that has an electric motor that helps spin it up while the exhaust pressure is too low. think of it as a KERS but for a turbo. Which could be used to replace the current FI systems in mazda engines (MS3, sky-d engines, etc)
The body could just be a slightly tweaked version of the next rx car body to make it lighter and stronger (more use of high strength steel).
The list could go on. Don't pull an LFA but rather the idea is make a car out of parts that could be used in the normal production line up. Even if it stayed as a concept car, if they made it production ready, I think I would enjoy that much more than an outrageous fantasy cars like the furai.
