Help Deciding: 08 STI vs 370Z
#26
No offense, I've been there and done that. I've always loved the looks of the RX-8, but the car is just to finicky for my liking. Although the new high end model, looks great.

...um yea, i was being sarcastic. Ugh. Anyways, you cant go wrong with either of those 2 choices really, i have no kids and am 31 yrs old, personally i would lean towards the 370Z. More mature looking sports car with sick out of the box performance, hard to beat. Sti is very good for the practical fella, but im not very practical so....

I've personally never been a huge fan of the STi... it's a great car but for some reason never really liked them. I do like the evo though. If you like the evo x at all and can get a good deal on it, I'd consider that. I've test driven both the STi and the 370z and the z felt like a lot more fun. Mind you, I wasn't really pushing either car, as it was a test drive, but I just liked the feel I got from the z.
I'm guessing you've test driven both, so what feel did you get? Is there anything specific you noticed between the 2 cars that you really liked that the other didn't have?

I'd say just figure out what your budget is and think about what you want out of the car. You have a winter car/practical car and you have a fun in the corners car so maybe you are looking for a daily driver that’s fast/fun and looks good?
If that’s the case and I was in your shoes I’d look at the following:
370z
Camaro SS with RS package
BMW Z4M Roadster or Coupe (06’s are about 30k)
BMW 335i Coupe (07)
BMW 135i (not as pretty but cheaper/lighter)
C6 Vette
Audi TT (not as fast but attractive and can be had with AWD. 2.0 engine responds well to mods, VR6 with a Turbo added is beastly)

If it wasn't for the kids I would never have bought an STI. Perfect car for Dad's IMO. Can haul most of what you need the 15% of the time you need to and is fun the other 85% of the time. Only thing better IMO would be an RS4 Avant.

Used cars are out of the question, so I won't be buying a C6 any time soon.
American cars are out of the question. I've tried to give American cars and dealerships a shot at my business, but they always drop the ball. I tried to look at some Camaro's, but they would not let you test drive the car! I mean honestly now, how am I supposed to buy the car without driving it first. In addition to that, any car that sells seems to get an inflated price by the dealer. Finally, I've heard some bad things about the build quality of the Camaro, it's clear that they were rushing the car to market from some of the silly things they did.
My next new car will be a BMW, but thats at least a year or two off.

Anyhoo, I've had various subarus including a JDM Sti and I can tell you AWD even with loads of horsepower still feels disconnected when compared to a true front-engined RWD sports car. I love the STi. Great little hatchbacks. But the Z takes my money if back seat is not a requirement given the two. But if it's my money, I'd get a Cayman S or a Z4M over those.

You have a daily driver .......... get something fun ... 370 hands down. STI is a frigging station wagon with a big engine .............. Big deal .
My 2 cents.................

2.5l is not a big engine.... but it's massive when compared to our puny 1.3l. the EJ25 is tiny compared to a G8's 6.0l though.
