i love the sti...evo is good but after you hit a point in performance practicly the whole drivetrain needs to be replaced..and engine needs to be rebuilt. lot of work if you ask me. NO idea how the sti's drive train is...dont' have any exsperience with them...just like how you can make them look...and awd imprezza's do kick some a$$. but i liek the look and feel of the rx-8 the best. teh rx-8 gives you a lot more confidence driving through the twistes than the evo or the sti IMO. :D

And where did you hear the engine needs to be rebuilt? Plenty of EVO owners are running 400+ with very basic mods: exhaust, intake, turbo, ic, AFC/piggyback/reflash, cams, and a bit of tuning. The stock internals are so strong that I can't remember ever hearing of owner replacing them....and it's certainly not a common topic at evom.
Currently the EVO is faster and cheaper to build into a drag car. It will likely remain that way since the STi's boxer engine is harder to work on, requires twice the cams, turbo is closer to being maxed out stock, and 6 speed requires an extra shift in the 1/4 mile.

ah no need to go medieval on my buttocks. LOL and you ask where do i get my information from? b/c i know the two people who have the fastest stock turbo evo's in the country. (one of them just upgraded his turbo). and i didn't say at what point the drivetrain went to ****. yes it can take 400..it can take more. hehe but becareful what confidence does...i've seen a transfer case explode and a rear diff disentagrate. the transfer case was not designed to takee a lot of launches at a drag strip (but what car is). i didn' tknock the evo just ...perhaps i should of thrown around hp numbers to make some people feel better or something. i dunno just saying that if he wants to make a super drag machine he's going to need to do a lot of work (i didn't include hp and when you need to replace or upgrade parts...b/c he didn't say what kinda' drag car he wants...what was the tiem he was aiming for etc etc)
oh but the rx-8 does give you more confidence (my opinion of course)..but i have drivin' some fast *** evo's lots of power that's for sure but the rx8 inspires confidence in it's drivers the evo you just seem to hold on
P.S. at 2500k his cllutch was gone...at 7k his engine was rebuilt...adn now at ~26k he is gonna be working on his tranny...but he has a stupid fast car:D

Sorry, I reread your post and saw you didn't post any hp figures. I guess it depends on what level/time the poster is looking for. The EVO is pretty easy to get into the 11's but after that it's all uphill. A 2.0L 4 cyclinder can only do so much. IMO, if the poster is aiming for sub-11's then an '03 Cobra would be a much better choice.
Out of curiosity, how fast were the stock turbo EVO's?

AbusiveWombat the stock turbo evo's would run mid 11's pretty damn fast....only thing is the life of the turbo goes way down at that boost. but it's crazy fast. lol and a lot of torque ta boot, yes the cobra would be better fo rsub 11's..but talk about no fun to drive around the city/track an evo has some crazy good handeling as well. nice package for performance. but i loooove the rx-8...she's just eays to drive fast in the corners...haha the evo scared the crap out of me the first few turns...but it was no where near stock so that probable had something to do with it

It has begun, the parts are in: ZEX wet nitrous kit, SR pulleys, SR HF CAT. I have started building a custom box for the ZEX kit, it's one badass setup. It should all be on by the end of the week!

If you mod the 8 and wreck it (badly) you won't be covered on insurance for all your mods.
If you get the STi no worries.
Sumpin to think about.
