Similar thing happened to me when I bought my 8, one of the dealers I talked to demanded that I undergo a credit check before even test driving one. I told them it didn't matter since I wasn't using their financing, but they refused to work with me otherwise. I ended up going out of state and getting a better deal anyway, but the funny thing was I drove almost right past that dealership on the way home. Unfortunately it was late so they were probably closed by that time, but I would have loved to have driven up and showed the sales manager how their stupid policies were losing them sales.

On the checking credit thing, I NEVER allow a dealer to check my credit, although the credit print out is a good idea, because it can mess with your credit score and my credit is perfect and I intend for it to stay that way. I still have had only one salesperson try to run it and I simply told him to get the sales manager and let me talk to him, he then shut up and gave me the keys.
And as far as buying without A. cross shopping other cars including test drives of those vehicles and B. buying without test driving the type of car you are planning on buying is, well, retarded.
