i just bought new tires for my eclipse

i am going to put The Toyo T1-S Proxys tires on the rx8 when it comes in. The toyo tires are great tires they handle so good in the rain and dry weather also in autocross. With my eclipse i was going around 50mph with the tires on and not even a squeel and i didnt do anything to the suspension. This is a great tire.

I'm going to let the stock tires wear down by beating the crap of them, then buy better ones later.

I don't see the point in replacing tires right off the bat, with the RX-8 throwing a .91g on the skidpad... it's damn good grip with stock tires, even if they suck.

I wonder if the dealer will let you switch? My father did this with his Matrix. He didn't like the tire on it (got very low ratings in different weather cond.), so the dealer gave him a rebate on another set that he wanted.

I think the stock tires on the RX-8 are pretty good already...but I do have experience with the T1-S's and they're a nice tire but they cost allot. 850$ Can. for a full set of 195 55 15's on my Miata.

I believe they come with the Bridgestone Potenza RE040.

I'm with Herc. I'll wait till the stock tires wear down and probably replace them with the Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Positions.

The treadwear is real low like 140. My son has a WRX and his tires had either a 140 or 160 and lasted only 9K miles. If you drive it hard it won't take long. Guess I'll be looking for tires in a couple months too :D

I hate to say you got ripped off, but you certainly didn't get a very good price on those tires. www.tiretrends.com is doing Internet sales out of Vancouver, and they currently list that size Toyo T1-S for $157.14 ea, or about $630 pre-tax for a set!! If you actually bought the correct 15" size for a Miata (195/50-15, the 195/55 tires you bought are taller than OEM size)), they're only $124.95 ea, or $500 for a set for a Miata!! The T1-S is actually a bargain performance tire in the proper Miata size.

Regards,
Gordon

I ordered my es 100's from tirerack in the states for $78 per tire plus $50 for shipping. Then went to the dealer for mounting, only cost about $150 CDN per corner. Local retail was about $220CDN mounted and balanced.
