If not the RX-8, then what?

Power!!
I had a GTI so I was definitely not going to get another VW! I was thinking about a WRX, EVO, or RX8. The Evo was too ugly outside, The WRX was too ugly inside, the RX8 was just right! That and I really wanted the 8 anyway since I've been in love with the Rotary since my FD in '96.

If I could've gotten the MX-5 with power retractable roof for the same price as my 8 when I bought it, I would have definitely considered that.
Otherwise, most of the cars commonly listed as "competitors" of the 8 cost $5k-$10k more than what I payed for mine....

For me it came down to a C4 Corvette, older Acura NSX (cash buy) 350Z or the 8.
Took me 2 years to make my mind up. The 8 wasn't originally high on the list simply due to the specs - HP was wimpy, gas mileage was so-so. After a test drive I was hooked.

I would have gotten a 3rd gen RX-7 FD, hands down.
Second choice would have been close between an Evo or STi. But insurance is killer on those, but sweet rides nonetheless.
And then my last choice was a Dodge SRT-4. I know it's not upscale, but it's one hell of a hot rod and cheap to mod. And still has 4 doors and isn't as expensive as an Evo/STi to insure.
