Nope, as soon as I get a new job in the next two weeks, I'm putting my car up for sale. Once I sell it, I'm buying the vette. Things look pretty lined up with the guy I'm talking to. Unless he sells it to the only other potential buyer (and he'd rather not), then I should be good. He seems like a good guy, and an enthusiast who wants to find someone who appreciates the car for what it is, and will take good care of it.

I went with my wife and brother in law to pick up their C6 vettes and the National Corvette museum ( notice avatar. My 8 is the first of the three cars in the pic at the museum). The vette is faster, but the 8 handles better. I almost never drive my wifes car because mine is more fun to drive. The C6 drives a lot better than the C5 and I have seen some 05 C6s in the $30s range. I would drive the 8 a while longer and get a C6, or better yet, if you have a friend with a vette, drive it for a few days. You might decide to keep the 8.
p.s. A friend of mine just sold her 02 millennium yellow vert for $26k. Another friend just bought an 05 LMB coupe for $37k. There are deals out there.

As for your dad - that's pretty cool. I don't know the first thing about classic cars and where to find them though. I guess a little googling will go a long way. haha

Why is it when people decide to change cars, they must inform the world? I mean, you are just changing cars - not solving world hunger, putting an end to poverty, brokering world peace.......etc.
You are just trading in 5 wheels for another set of 5 wheels. Big deal!
If you love the vette, just go to the vette forum and say "hi"!
You don't need to give a parting shot to the 8 community.
When I switched cars, I went to my new car forum, intro'ed myself and got involved. With respect to the old forum, I just fade into obscurity, didn't feel the need to announce my departure.

Trolls aside, 1 more week of owning an RX-8.

broker doesn't understand, we have alot of folks here who started with an rx8 or even just thought about an rx8 and have something else at the moment, it's about the people, not the cars.

Also, it's really hard to find the right car to buy. I thought selling would be the headache, but it turned out to be easy. Most people selling vettes think that several thousand dollars over blue book is a "fair" price.

okay, ah, i read your post three times... so let me verify it... you're saying that a C5 Vette should never attempt to take on an RX8 at a road course? Is that what you just said?

Track this....
Galen, your a funny guy! (....the track comment WAS a joke, right?)
Slayer, did you try the shifter? I found it clunky and nasty - I'd hate to see you devolve into the stereotypical "Corvette automatic" buyer....

I've done a lot of thinking about what I want with this car, and I'm still getting an automatic. I don't think this will be your stereotypical auto vette, though. Here are my three stages of mods.
1. Bolt ons: Vararam intake, LT headers (LG, Kooks, American racing...one of those), Hi-flow cats, X-pipe, Borla quad oval catback.
2. 3.42 gears and Yank 3200 stall converter
3. Cartek 2x cam and 3x heads
My conservative goals for this setup are 400whp N/A and running low 11's in the quarter.
I am really hoping to make around 420whp N/A and break into the 10's though.
Basically I want a streetable car that can eat up the drag strip OR the track. I think it's a pretty well rounded setup.
