11/21/13: Mazda Skyactiv models helping to finance future rotary |*CarAdvice
"Mazda’s global CEO and president Masamichi Kogai said there was still potential for the company to produce another vehicle powered purely by a rotary engine that has become embedded in the company’s history and DNA."
“You know that we have already put more than two million rotary vehicles on the road,” said Kogai-san, also via an interpreter.
I would just like to point out that of all the car makers in the world, Mazda is the only one who has the engineering knowledge and facilities to produce rotary engines. So we want to fulfil our responsibility as maker of past rotary engines and we want to see what kind of potentials a rotary engine will have in our industry.
There is a possibility, I don’t deny it [for rotary use beyond range extender]. The rotary engine has the original benefit of being compact, no noise and also being able to accommodate a variety of fuels.”

While it's what I expected, I have reservations about the article. The journalists comments take quite a few liberties with what the CEO actually said, and I'd like to see more information to back it up.

This article has been popping up in various forms all around the web as well. I'm not holding my breath either, especially for a new rx8. I have a feeling if they're gonna put out a new engine, there's gonna be a new car to set it in. Who knows though, no one knows for sure but Mazda

I didn't even notice the publish date hahahaha. I've just been seeing it pop up A LOT lately and googled "2014 rx8" and copy and pasted the first link I saw. Didn't even take a look at the publish date.
The concept illustration is hideous too. It doesn't look much like a sports car to me at all. It looks more like a sedan to me, although I guess that's subjective.
Also, is it just me or are those the same wheels from the 2011 rx8?
Whoever did this fake render with CGI didn't do a very convincing job IMO, although it does kinda look like the new mazdas that are coming out (like the 2014 mazda 3, and mazda 6)
I'm surprised it's spreading so quickly. Although I guess a lot of these automotive sites are probably just posting it to ***** site traffic.

Actually that is very close to the Shinari concept that was actually produced, and is now currently embodied in the Mazda6:
But yes, there have been rumors regurgitated for years, most of which are completely unfounded and full of misinformation and utterly fabricated "facts".

The Shinari was a design language concept... It wasn't intented to be a production model, it is intended to show the direction that body design is going to go, the overall lines and the general look to the shapes.
The Kodo language translates very well to the CX-5, 6, and 3. I fully epxect it will look great in the new MX-5 and whatever rotary might appear (if it shows up before they move on to a new design language)

I tried a 2014 Mazda 3 yesterday, oh man it was so cool, I think it was one of the new models they designed with that "language" in mind? damn. if I still live in NYC, I get that no questions asked.
lets hope the next rx(if it ever comes out) it's gonna be as cool as that.

If they build it, I will come...BUT NOT IN THE 1ST YEAR. I LEARNED MY LESSON. Do I believe it will come? No. At least not purely as a rotary engined car. Maybe as a hybrid of sorts. Fuel economy and emissions are some major milestones to overcome.
Just make a blown rotary supercar and give it a gas guzzler tax.

rev it up
I do not regret being one of the first to buy the RX8. Being a new distinctive car gets a lot of attention as you drive. My car is over 10 years old and still running well even after abusing it on over 50 track days and supercharged for over 2 years on the original engine!!
