Good times!

As a side, P1 is now just Audi and Autocon running one (maybe two) very outdated cars.

Its from the speedsource website, "Posted (12/06/2006) - 2 GT cars testing at Miami-Homestead Speedway, getting ready for 2007 Grand-Am Rolex season"

Nice find indeed!!! It'll make the trip to Laguna this year and hopefully Infineon that much more fun.

LMP1 will be boring as hell with just the Audi winning every race. I wonder what was the driving force behind Dyson's switch to LMP2.

You never know, it could be tonight. Though, I bet they want to make sure they can play competitively with the big boys thus continuing their testing. I would think late Jan to early Feb we will start to hear some news.

Don't know. I have heard more talk that they were going to make an announcement before Christmas (I will hold my breath). Then there is the rumor mill of using AER powerplants to help field multiple Mazda cars.

I don't think their driver lineup has been confirmed. Last I read Guy Cosmo has been in discussion with them but nothing has been signed.

Speculation. That's all we can live on until the horses mouth speaks.

Again, just speculation from the masses. I keep hope in the fact Mazda states that Mazda fans will be happy with their announcement. We will see whatever it is.

The AER rumor probably started because of Dennis Spencer buying an ALMS team that was powered by AER engines. He's not going to race though.

If we see a piston engine, it won't bear any resemblance to the DISI Mazda engines in the passenger cars. It will probably be another engine rebadged as one for PR reasons in the same way the current race engine is not a Renesis.

I still think a rotary can be made to work successfully if done properly. Whether the team can is another issue.

Latest News:
BK-Motorsports/Mazdaspeed makes the switch to Grand-Am GT and field another 3-rotor because after testings, they determined that Mazda could not put together a competitive car.

Okay just kidding, I hope they make an announcement and tell us what car/engine they'll race with soon.

RG: I think I remember you saying that the LMP2 car was not allowed to use variable length intake runners which put them at a huge disadvantage. Will they be able to do this for GT? Any hopes on a rules change for rotaries on this?

I see. Sounds like the chassis engineers needed to go back to the drawing board and find some space...

Well, according to this article, Doonan states no to rebadge and an annoucement soon after Jan 1: http://www.endurance-info.com/articl...rder=0&thold=0

Translated via Babel Fish:
John Doonan clarified the situation for us: "All is in place for our program ALMS 2007. Frame, tires, engine, control, all is buckled. We will be in Sebring and will dispute the entirety of the season. This program will be announced just after January 1. I cannot thus say some to you more, but I will clear up a point all the same. Mazda "will not rebadgera" not a current or future engine. Our philosophy is always centered on the fact of using engines derived from the series production for our sporting programs. It is an obvious step in all our programs: Field Bus Atlantic, Mazda Star, Large-Am, World Challengeet even in the new IMSA Lites Series which use a Mazda engine for two of the three categories."

That probably just means that it isn't a different mauyfacturers engine with their name on it. I'd expect that. I would expect them to get a little creative on the name though since the current engine isn't a Renesis. It's closer to a 13G as it's the block and not the rotors used that give it a name designation.

Their last practice, #70 was second fastest in GT class. Interesting to follow the rest of the testing through this weekend to see how they pan out.

Edit- Jan 8th Mazda will have a 10:15am booked conference at the NAIAS. I don't think they will announce their ALMS plans there but you never know. Im also hearing Lola for chassis which wouldn't suprise me. AER was taking out of the engine rumors and replaced with possible Cosworth, Elan, and Mazda JP. The fanboi in me wants Mazda JP
