It was a rotary outlasting the competition type of victory. The Kudzu won it's class because it was the only car in it's class to finish the race. They placed 25th overall. There were only 25 cars that finished the race so they were the last place car that actually was still running. All of those cars that were behind them DNF'd.
Not much info available on that car but here is a picture of it.

Here's the results from the 1996 Le mans, with a pic of the car at the track:

As for the tube frame chassis Rx-8, it wouldn't be allowed in either GT category, nor would the 3 rotor, as it is no longer in production. They could run a FI renisis because the Rx-8 would be classified as a GT2s. I don't think that would be enough though to make it competive though. According the the Road & Track I have, the Peterson/White Lightning Porsche 911 GT3 RSR is putting out 455 bhp.

thanks for the link, as to the # the porches are putting out it is posible to have a good long lasting FI rotary with 400 rwhp ( belive it or not) the only limiting factor is $$$$$$.
remember that not long ago there where a couple of turbo rx-7 runing endurance races and doing ok, I would love to see a pair of FI RX-8 in gt2

I agree, my hope is that with Acura & Porsche's strong commitment, Mazda will step up and make a full factory effort to go toe to toe with the big guns. I get the feeling that I'm going to be dissapointed though...
