It makes good posters at dealerships. The blue and white Lola is beautiful.

Not sure if this has been posted but here is some technical info on Mazda's DISI 2.3 in the Speed 3 and 6. Good look though at what will have to be done to the AER motor.

News on another team that will join the LMP2 later this year, they're currently running in the Star Mazda series. In the gallery you'll see pictures of last year's LMP1 Dyson Lola. I am guessing the difference is only in ballast weights for these Lolas. Since they're running in LMP2, I am curious as to what engine they'll run. The Mazda/AER turbo4? Does mazda have the resources to back (sort of) two teams? also what engine choices are available to them. AER?

we should send them emails to put a 3-rotor in it

You mean a FI rotor option?? I doubt it would be competitive otherwise. I also doubt velocityMS would opt for a half hearted Mazda backed program.

Maybe the good in this is that Mazda will find out sooner or later whether the I4 turbo is viable when most everyone else is going with V8 power.

I think it makes more sense for Mazda to be using the boosted four more than it does Honda running an 8. At least there's somewhat of a link to actual production motors. Since when does any Honda car run a V8, or 10 or 12 for that matter?

Personally I'd rather see a Mazda racecar always run a rotary. It's the one thing that makes the company truly unique. It's just too bad that all the other manufacturers raise a big stink about the Wankel and how it should be restricted and how Mazda gets to run lighter, etc.

Very true from a pure marketing point of view, but what are you going to market when your car cant win the races. Some of us here are wondering why everyone is running V8s, and none of the competitive cars are boosted fours.

Yeah, the Euros seem to be the ones running the V8's and higher. Running the same (loosely speaking) powerplant in both your production and racing programs makes sense. But winning makes the most sense regardless of what you're running.

I'm eager to see what the reliability is going to be with this Mazda/AER/Lola once they get the kinks worked out. For me, it's still a question as to whether the I4 will be able to compete with the big guns in this series even with all else (chasis, drivers, tires, etc.) being relatively equal.

And yes, I think the consensus here is that we'd much prefer to see a rotary powerplant in whatever form as long as it can compete.

I'd bet that with Honda's and Porsche's (with Penske's backing) big budgets they must've run simulations and concluded that their engine package might give them the weight distribution/power/reliability they desire over the blown 4 choice.

Most likely. Also what really amazes me is that the path Acura took with the Courage LC75s. If you've been following the Acura since its announcement you should know that two of their chassis are based on the Courage LC75. Actually, technically speaking they are, but with Acura-redesigned aero pieces. I read that the Courage chassis are good, but their aeros arent the best. Hence Acura took it to the wind tunnel to develop the cars, and came up with completely new bodywork and called it their own with the name Acura ARX-01.

The only Lola they have(06' version) is used as a test platform to test new things on. Intersport chose to go with Creation. And rumor was that Velocity MS also considered to go with a Creation LMP2 chassis. 2/3 Acuras are Courage. I am curious as to why the other teams chose not to go with Lola. I am not knocking on Lola, there are tons of them on the Euro side, they're a great company, and we might see them in Grand-Am prototypes too, which i am looking forward to as well.

However there is something I cant wait to see on the BK/Mazda Lola. Direct injection. This is a great opportunity for Mazda to perfect the DI system used on piston engines (In terms of tuning). I know they have it in CX-7, MS3, MS6, but I have doubts that they have harnessed all the potential the system has.

With that said, the LMP2 class is really heating up, we'll enjoy the battles up front with the porsches and the acuras, and mazda with other privateer teams not too far behind.

Update: you can add Autocon to the Creation LMP1 list, they'll run one at Utah with a Judd V10, same as the Intersport Creation package.

7th overall and 5th in P2 is pretty good! I do hope Intersport really starts to find some pace once they get off all the street courses...

Now we are getting some times that we need to be seeing! 2 seconds off of 1st and 5th in class (so far) out of 8. Now we're talking. Let's see if they can finish the race now. This could get good. Only a week until I see them here in Houston! I can't wait.

Looks like Devlin's getting the better times. We'll see how qualifying goes. I'd be happy with a P7 start.
