good strategy, there are some more succesfull teams running AER engines in europe
Im a rotary enthusiast firts, but i would like to see mazda be competitive and succesful in LMRS, so I hope they can get the engine to work, afther this season I think it will be very hard

Not much new news but I did stumble on this.
"On the LMP2 the current P07 four-cylinder is still receiving some development as one of their 'established customers' for this engine is continuing to use it next year (from the accompanying thread I presume this relates to RML). A European spec of the MZR-R is being developed (different restrictors and fuel to the ALMS) and endurance testing is underway. A direct injection system may be introduced in 2008 as well."
Found at http://www.ten-tenths.com/forum/show...6&postcount=21
Was also excited to find on Netflix highlight dvd's of several years worth of the 24 hours of Le Mans.

Found a great article here. http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/alms/42110/?page=1
Pruett: Looking ahead, what's in store for 2008 in the ALMS series for Mazda? New car? New drivers? Changes in the team?
Doonan: “Some exciting things are coming for 2008...we will be able to share all the details in the coming weeks. Some new partners are on board and I will leave it at that for now...we are very excited about the new season and are focused on the job at hand...”
Heart of the new prototype--the 2.0L turbocharged MZR-R engine. Mazda hopes the engine will find its way into other LMP2 cars next year. (Photo: Marshall Pruett)
Pruett: Might we see a 2nd car at any American Le Mans events next year?
Doonan: “Our goal with the MZR-R engine program is to add as many customer teams using Mazda MZR-R power as possible. We have had a ton of interest from teams both here in North America and in the European Le Mans Series...nothing is final yet, but we are looking forward to seeing more Mazda powered prototypes running in 2008.”
Pruett: The MZR-R engine did well in 2007--any thoughts on if we might see a return of Renesis rotary power in the future?
Doonan: “Rotary power and the spirit of sticking with the rotary engine development over the years is certainly a cornerstone of the Mazda brand and our heritage. We have made a commitment to the MZR-R program for ALMS...by the same token we continue to focus our rotary engine development in motorsports on our Rolex GT customer car program and certainly in the Star Mazda Series. But...you never know...with the reliability of Mazda rotary power....you can never count that engine out.”

With the money invested in the new MZR motor it would be bad it they then went back to the rotary. Hopefully they can be competitive and reliable with the motor and stick with it for some time. Maybe with the new 16x when or if it pans out we will see the rotary in ALMS. Till then I will still cheer for Mazda.

News on Mulsanne's Corner
http://www.mulsannescorner.com/newsjan08.html
"AER
The 4.0 liter version of the AER P32 turbo V8 engine debuted at Petit last year with both Cytosport and Intersport and Mike Lancaster tells us that, from now on, the P32 will only be raced in 4.0 liter form.
Work is continuing on the direct injection system and the decision will be made as to whether or not to introduce the development on both the P32 and MZR-R this year.
There is a new version of the MZR-R for this year and it will be used by BK Motorsports in addition to a number of as yet unnamed European Le Mans Endurance Series teams. The P07 will continue to see use alongside the MZR-R though the eventual goal is for the MZR-R to supplant the P07."

And that is without direct injection? I hope they will finally have it on the engine this year.

The car looks good, the drivers are feeling good and the team has a positive feeling for the year. The car is going several seconds faster than it ever has, the unfortunate thing is that so are the other teams.
I asked Devlin about the tires and he is positive about them at this point, though he has not had a lot of time on them, so we'll see how things go. Apparently they tried quite hard to get Michelin tires, but Michelin would not supply them. They are picky about who they supply and supposedly are pulling them from a couple other teams that previously had them. Its a shame as you really need Michelin to have a chance in this series right now, they just own the tire development.
It will be tough this year, a fourth Acura has just been announced as well which will be run and driven by Gil de Ferran, so more tough competition is coming. Right now they'd be better off throwing a second turbo on the MZR engine and running P1, especially with the fact that Audi running this year is in question.

the car looks great and the times are really good!
I really hope they get good results this year, it would be a shame if this program does not work afther all the effort and money invested

The car is turning out competitive lap times, with some luck and superb reliability, they might actually get a podium against Acura/Porsche.

New BMW M3 joining GT2!
Also for BK, how bad were the Kumhos last year, and how much better are Yokohamas compared to Kumho, and Michelin.
I have heard that BK is interested in getting a second car too? since they have a really sponsorship program this year with BP(multi-year) and Yokohama. At least they won't be running with the GT1s this year.
It shouldn't be much more expensive to run a second car for an ALMS team, since they're already pouring in tons of money every race, except for the initial cost of the car. They could put Matos in the car full time, and maybe..... Tremblay!!!! I would watch for the drivers alone if they do that.
PS. Maybe build a Speedsource LMP, with 3-4 rotors in a closed cockpit Lola B08 =)
