The 315 hp version of the coupe is NICE...the S52 is a hell of a motor.

The BMW maintenance program is 50,000 miles. Everything is bascially covered, unless you do damage to the car and are proven responsible. Oil changes are free and are only required every 15,000 miles or sooner depending on your driving. I have the extended program on my '04 M3, and the only thing that sucks is that after the 50,000 warranty is up. You have to pay $500 for an inspection every year regardless of any problems or not - just to keep the warranty. This is why people tend to stray from buying used BMW's is because their service bills are rediculous. Every BMW we have ever bought has had the 100,000 mile warranty and we haven't had to pay for an oil change yet. And that is 3 X5's 2 new 7's, 2 M3's, 1 3 sedan, 1 M5, etc. That $700 for an oil change might be referring to Mercedes SLK55? That is around there for the oil change because the quarts of oil are roughly $9 a quart and labor is a joke; my dad's Vice President has this car... IT is damn fast thought, BUT an automatic.

Be VERY careful buying any M Roadster or M Coupe. Hell, be careful buying any Z3 or Z3 Coupe - BMW took a bad engineering shortcut with the rear differential and the rear chassis, and as a result is having serious problems with them now. The chassis rear section is based on the old E30 3-series chassis, and the differential mounts with a single 'ear'. Unfortunately, the rear chassis can't handle the power of the 6 cylinder or M engines, and has a tendency to rip the rear floorpan, popping the spot welds and tearing the metal. BMW is having to replace and re-weld floor sections under extended warranty coverage.
If you are considering a Z3 or Coupe variant, have the rear floor section inspected extremely carefully.
Here's a thread with pictures of typical damage and multiple posts from owners who have experienced this failure: Z3 and MZ3 Diff Mount and Subframe Tears
Regards,
Gordon
PS - no loss, the Coupes look like giant clown shoes anyway! :p

You guys over in the US obviously have different taste to us here in Oz.
The general consensus when the M coupe was released (and even today) is that it is a "butt ugly" car.
Then again, we like the taste of Vegemite whereas the rest of the world can't get their taste buds around it.

Can't you get the 315 hp version? The 240 hp version? I don't know. I'd rather get the RX-8.

I still think the M3 is the best looking out of the BMW's. The M Coupe is interesting and I can see where the clown shoe description might come from but it isn't as bad as the 3rd gen Toyota Celica's were. They looked like an old pair of Converse Hi-tops to me.

Hey nosub, $1400 for an oil change? And you paid it? Now how many qts. in the water pumper 911? My air/oil cooled 911 takes about 12 qts. I never paid $140 leave alone 10x that. It does not sound right. If it takes them 3 hours at $100/hr. and they charge you $100/qt. It's still nowhere near $1400. I just can't figure out how they came up with that much. Do you have an itemized bill?

911sc, based on your s/n, im assuming that you have an older 911 (didnt they stop making the SC sometime in the 70's/80's? nowadays, they do all this other crap that wasnt necessairy on the older 911's. maybe its cause im on longisland and they try to rip you off for every penny they can get outa you. thats why im not taking my m coupe to the dealer for service, but rather i know this guy who specialises in bmw's.

the 3 coupe? like a 3 series? well heres an update. i found one at a local dealership. i took my mom to see it and she said that as soon as they give us the price we want, we can get it. she also thinks its the ugliest car ever made. she calls it the abortion that got away, cause it never should have happened. she said that she will eat the cost between the used m coupe and a less used m3. im still leaning towards the m coupe cause ive never had a driving experience like that before. its so connected to the road. whats everyones opinions (please leave the ugliness out of it)
