While I have great respect for its performance capabilities, I am not to keen on its looks. I am also turned off by the interior. I know that they updated it, it looks too be laid out and executed better than the C5, but the materials are still crap. As well, Corvettes are a dime a dozen where I live.

My brother has an E46 M3, and it's not my cup of tea at all. I would say go with the NSX, it's an awesome car.

Testarossa, dated? No sir . . .
Saw a cherry silver 'rossa at the post office this spring, snapped a bunch of pics but I"m not at home and can't post 'em right now. The car is dead sexy. So low, so wide, so hot. Trust me, in person the Testarossa is the shiznit.
Peace

I would have to say that you are nuts for thinking of buying an RX-8, to replace a BMW E46 M3 with SMG 2. My dad owns that exact car, and I love it so dearly. I own an 8, and would trade for that any day! The engine is one of the best in the world, 103 bhp/liter Naturally aspirated. 8000k rpm. On top of all that, it is a BMW; the best-built cars in the world.
If you were to trade down to an rx-8, you would be driving the equivalent to a Nissan in quality, this car's built quality stinks. I am not bashing my 8, it is worth every penny of the 30k I payed; but I AM comparing it to a $50k car with high build quality.
The car is not maxed out, if you go to dinan, they have a lot of stuff for it. IMO it would be your greatest mistake to get rid of one of the best GT's on the market.

Might I suggest going to www.bimmer.org and to the M3 message board. Ask them about M3 performance mods.

Personally, I think the RX-8 looks way better than an M3. I don't think performance was what he was complaining about. I think he doesn't like the styling of the M3. It doesn't look like a sports car. From a distance, the M3 doesn't look much different than a 2-door 3-Series.
Just get a 97+ NSX. Its got decent performance. Car and Driver tested a 01 NSX (97-01 are pretty much identical) a few years back getting 0-60 mph at 4.5 secs, 1/4 mile at 12.9s at 109 mph. Thats probably close to M3 performance right? Heck if you lived closer, I'd let you try mine out.
