Mazda CX-5 crossovers recalled for potential fuel leaks
#2
Safety Recall 9216B Mazda CX-5.
The potential is IF the car is struck in the rear (in the right spot behind the rear left wheel well) it 'could' rupture the fuel filler tube which 'could' cause a fire.
There are two fixes...
One only for the majority of all Mazda CX-5's made on or from October 2, 2013 including stop sale and new showroom stocks of today (2016).
The other repair procedure is for the those made in the first 12 weeks before October 1, 2013 of CX-5 production (repair is still to be announce on 'how to').
The Repair Method..
The majority Basic repair/fix for CX-5's made on or from October 2, 2013 is to remove and discard one bracket bolt only (B) and then film seal the bolt hole in bodywork and apply a body coating spray....see pics below..
That is all..

Should be OK, as the bracket is a lightweight one and is actually pulled out away from discarded bolt @ hole (B) a little (by about 3 mm) leaving a gap so it actually does not touch the bodywork....the other end of bracket (A) remains as is, so the support for Filler Pipe is still there, just in one area on bracket instead of the two positions.
