Erm.. I coulda swore a month ago I read on Speed Channels News section that the Kabura as much as Mazda loves it decided against making it since its Plants would not have the capacity to make another car. I'll make a attempt to find the article and post the link if I'm sucessful in finding it. ><!!
Then again they could just discontinue a car and make the Kabura in its place

remember we are still in rampant speculation mode
but that article was actually before the remarks ny the mazda guy who says they were actively looking at it.
also there is pertinent ford speculatiuon to throw in here
When the Kabura debuted Ford also showed a way out concept called the reflex http://car-reviews.automobile.com/Fo...-concept/1990/ that was obviously on the same platform.
that and other things have led many( well me and a coupel others) to speculate that if Mazda builds a kabura based car that fored might make their own version as a new probe
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ighlight=probe
well Ford is due to Debut somethign at the LA auto show as well (see first link in this thread) and Mark Fields had this to say http://www.heraldnewsdaily.com/stori...-00203554.html
so could we see a "mx-3/rx-3" and a new "probe"??!?!!?

While he wouldn‘t identify the models, he said there are a lot of developments that haven‘t been announced.
"It‘s going to be a busy year for us. We have a lot of product coming."

I never liked the "new mustang" erm probe rather.. but if we get the Kabura out of a Ford plant I dont think it will be rotary.. unless hmm... would ford take a big risk and put a rotary in one of their cars.. now thats rampant speculation for ya!

Why would it be called the RX3? we've had an RX3 ....it would logically be called an RX5-6-9 ....right? I figure if a rotary did come out it would be around application mindedness of a MX5...don't really see this as being the kabura debut =P...........
Im gonna have to go with a MS8 ftw....only makes sense.......300 whp FI 8 anyone?

because the rx-3 is what it was being called when it still had the rotary in it and before people knew the name kabura and because its a retro name and becaus eit would be a cheap entry level rotary coupe just like the original

Axe the MPV, Tribute, and B-series truck and dedicate all those freed up resources to the Kabura. The Kabura would sell like hot-cakes give the Civic SI a swift drop-kick.

I really don't get the super hype about the Kabura. If the thing does in fact sell for ~$20k what can you expect? You think it will have a rotary and go faster than the 8? I can definitely see an RX-3 as a poor-man's 8 and a great way to get market interest up, but people are talking about selling their 8's for an unproven car that almost has to be inferior to their current ride.
I think the MX-3 is a much higher likelihood that will be one of these weird niche cars that are hard to compare to just like with the 8. It will be a super stylish ~$20k coupe that doesn't really compare apples to apples with cars in that range like the Civic Si.
If they make this a rotary powerhouse it'll compete with the 8. If they make this a small, light piston coupe it'll compete with the MX-5. Guess well see, but I suspect the Kabura to be a disappointment to a lot of people. It'll be FWD or too heavy or not powerful enough or something. It just can't be everything people are making it out to be

The Kabura will be a rear-wheel drive for sure. It will most likely have Mazda's 4-cylinder engine probably bumped to 200hp with forced induction. It won't compete with the MX-5 because its a 4-seater coupe with no drop-top. It probably won't be as fast as the RX-8 since it will weigh about the same with less power. I predict 0-60 in about 6.5 seconds if one abuses the clutch and gears.
The car looks absolutely stunning. If they build it, people will definitely buy it over a GTI, Civic SI, etc.

Ok sorry about that. Yeah you're right its targeted to be around 2400lbs. Amazing. Then I guess it wouldn't need to a turbo. I think a 170hp 4-cylinder powerplant would be sufficient.

Another thing to point out is that the Kabura concept, if it does go into production, it will be toned down a lot. Like in that Car and Driver magazine, they had that RX-7 concept which looked a little more realistic for production. That weird back door thing looks cool, but it's useless! And the speedometer attached to the steering wheel also looks neat, but it's retarded. Same goes for the top, the all-glass roof looks cool but that's not gonna happen.
I like the idea of having a MX-3 and a RX-3. But I've learned not to keep my hopes up, because Mazda likes to bring out their new cars with new pretty colors and keyless starts.
