not much new although they did actually drive it. the chassis being shortened CX-7 is interesting. Muir's dismay that it might be called CX-5 in production is strange. Is he saying the other 2 current CX models are "botched jobs"?
Muir definitely is out on a limb here. 2010?

I think Muir is dreaming here, IF it makes it into production most of the radical design elements won't make production (glass roof, rear glass (perspex), doors, interior) because of production cost which then translates into a high retail price...again I don't see a market for it in a Mazda showroom when you have the CX-7 with the same power plant and drive train configuration in a slightly larger body than the Hakaze.
But you never know...

I could see it work if they pull a FJ crusier(beach, outdoor type of car), but this type of vehicle still wont attract too many buyers.

If equipped with the turbocharged DISI, it'll at least be a "fun to drive" vehicle. A vehicle of the beach/outdoors type could allow for some more radical styling. This concept seems to be heading this direction from how I see it, especially the goldish yellow paint. Mazda needs to be careful with this, tapping into this very niche market needs some work.
Although I have to agree on that Mazda loves filling in niche markets, RX-8, Mazdaspeed 6, mazdaspeed 3 to some point, and also CX-7 as the first/ or one of the firsts turbocharged SUV. Basically most of Mazda's performance oriented vehicles are niche!

Go Texas Longhorns!
Mazda needs to build another car on the RX8/Miata platform to justify the R&D costs, so I'm not too worried about this jumping over the "Kabura" in the production line. This, is simply, Mazda's answer the the CRV/Rav4/X3.....you get the point.
The Kabura got alot more good press than this car, and judging by the sucess of the Scion Tc/Civic Si/WRX/EVO crowd, the Kabura would likely find many happy homes...including mine.
The only thing botched "Muir" are your comments.

Another Concept at Tokyo MS October 2007
Charlie,
I have just read this here locally about the Hakaze then this...
"A fourth design concept is scheduled for the Tokyo motor show in October and smart money is on the final member of the quartet pulling together the themes from the three cars already shown. "
What do you think???
I think we may also see the long awaited face lift RX-8 at Tokyo MS.....
Timing would be about right.

That car is hideous. I don't know what these companies are thinking when they show some of these concept cars. Mazda just needs to do the Kabura, and be done with it. They have sedans well covered. They need another coupe. If they aren't going to do rotary for the Kabura, which seems the likely case, then they need to drop that turbo from the Speed3 in there. Heard it responds well to mods.

Eh. It's ok as concept cars go. But, they are already going to make the CX9 which is just a larger version of the CX7. Why make a smaller version too? Why is it that Mazda has enough money to pump out the futuristic concept cars that look wierd, are a niche of a niche of a niche, and wil never see production but wont allow their flagship sportscar to have as much power as their 4 door sedan MS6 of wrong wheel drive MS3.
Please Mazda, just give my beautiful RX8 that is already in production more zoom zoom.

Or..
Or..
I think we will see Mazda with a "rabbit out of the hat" WOW car at Tokyo, that won't be a concept but a pre-production prototype..
And I will be VERY disappointed if we see no 8 upgrade...

Yea I want to know if anything is going to be done to the 8 in 08, if so I will just have to hold off on getting a 07 and wait for the 08, and this is a really hard prospect to face.

The turbo-4 in the CX-7 was a big hindrance for sales. The CX-7 should be fitted with the new V6 (from the CX-9) as should any other Mazda Crossovers.
The new V6 is smooth and quite powerful (if you have had the experience to drive them back to back, you know what I mean), plus it doesn’t need regular gas. The average consumer doesn’t care about DISI or Turbos, they just want a cheap to maintain, fuel efficient (on regular gas), powerful suv.

Momentum Keeps Me Going
‘I can see the Hakaze slotting in towards our current four-year production cycle,’ says James Muir, Mazda’s European boss. ‘So if I have anything to do with it, it will be arriving by 2010.’
Muir has plenty to do with the Hakaze – the concept car is his pet project and with his considerable clout behind it, looks likely to push ahead of the three-seater Kabura concept car in the race for production. It’ll be a world car, too, tapping into Mazda’s predicted growth in Japan, Europe and America for compact crossovers. Which means a lot of sales.
{writer's sensible observation}The Hakaze is an odd-looking thing, isn’t it? No doubt the production model will be dull as ditchwater…
Muir is pushing very hard to make sure these key elements make it through to production. ‘I want the scissor doors, the four-seater layout, the side cameras and the glass roof to make it through to production,’ he claims. ‘Otherwise what’s the point of doing these concept cars?’

Let me see if I can say this nicely... "Heaven help Mazda if Mr. Muir of UK Ford fame has enough sway at Mazda corporate to get this monstrosity on the world-wide production fast track... in front of, at the same time as, or after anything else Mazda may have plans for. What type of {fill in the blank} could or would voluntarily want to give birth to this Joe-Jetson styling equivalent of the Aztec?"
My vote - bring forth the Kabura - now! Enough with freaking cross-overs already.
