Mazda to launch CX-5 small SUV based on 2008 Kazamai concept
When Mazda introduced the Kazamai concept at the Moscow Motor Show in 2008, it received generally positive comments from WCF readers. One reader in particular, DeRay, said, "Mazda has some great concepts I'm just tired of seeing concepts I want to see the real thing or something that is very very VERY close."
DeRay may get his wish. When the Japanese automaker launches the small Mazda CX-5 SUV, it will be based on the two-year-old Kazamai concept, according to Autocar. Unspecified sources at Mazda allegedly told Autocar that the new crossover will hit the market by the end of 2011.
Looking to keep fuel efficiency at a maximum, and weight at a minimum, the vehicle will use a new set of Sky generation direct-injection engines and a light transmission. The vehicle is also expected to get regenerative braking and start/stop.
As soon as we get more info about the Mazda CX-5, we will bring it to you. We hope, for DeRay's sake, that it has a strong resemblance to the Kazamai.

First response was "you're joking right?" but the more I look at it from the different angles, the more I like it. I bet it looked killer in person. When the RX-8 first came out, I thought it was really ugly but after seeing it in person it somehow looked better. Maybe I'm just trippin

the autocar article doesnt state based ont eh kazamai. it says " like the Kazamai it will be powered by a new generation of direct-injection petrol engines, with drive delivered to the road through new lightweight transmissions." meaning the sky-tech. the article says mazda execs are claiming it will be 100kg less than its rivals

Pleeease! In deference to the Furai, as well as spin's avatar, let's show a little respect for real style ..which the Furai (not to mention spin) has!
Right off the bat ... Furai is nearly perfection....flat back paint and all.
On the other hand, IT is as close to perfection as spin is to owning a Furai. Yes there may be some incestuous family resembelence, but let's explore the differences that make ALL the difference between a Furai and IT.
1. Furai is a race car, a drivers car. IT is a crossover or SUV or some such thing.
2. Furai hood crisply slopes down from the windshield, has sharp crease perhaps a foot above the ground and bends straight down... offering excellent outward and downward vision, all the better to see apexes with as well as the occassionaly turtle crossing the track. IT has a rising rounded bulbous hood towering above the nosepiece that basically elliminates all vision short of 50 feet in front of IT, meaning small animals and children under four feet will be summarily run over without notice.
3. Furai windshield has a normal rake. IT has the current fashion of windshield as an extension of roof at such an extreme angle as to be a better star viewer than front facing window, further endangering anything crossing its path.
4. Furai is a low, road hugging machine. IT looks to have about 9 inches of road clearance, probably requiring gyrosopic traction controls to keep it from falling over around corners.
5. Furai has race wheels and tires. IT has giant chrome plastic looking things that don't even have the center cap in the center FCOL.
