Nissan literally translates to 'Japan Made'

'Ni' from Nippon (aka Japan)

'ssan', in borrowed chinese character writing, means 'produced'

so yeah, nothing fancy about the name Nissan, a very japanese name lol

I think the romanization of Nissan came before the actual romanizing was standardized. Like, Sony for instance from the kana would be romanized as Sonii.

That's from www.mazdatrix.com . They've got another variation that looks like ZoomZoomH's grill.

Never been a fan of the 91 toilet bowl design. It was in my mom's 96 MX-6. I find it a bit too faminine for some reason. Nothing wrong with that. Mainly I didn't like it because it didn't seem to signify anything to do with Mazda.

Nissan's name or logo? The name isn't too hard lol.

but they both use basically the same system of phonetics. If anything, the fact that it uses katakana would point to more foreign roots.

edit: just caught myself not thinking... they use katakana for a lot of business names. So the fact that it's katakana wouldn't necessarily indicate a domestic or foreign root. Though, I do wonder why they chose to go with maZda in foreign markets... I never found it that hard to say "tsu"...

Another funny tid-bit, found in the RX-7 book I've got...the name "Mazda" was originally a headlight name....

never liked ....sadly most of "my-beloved" mx-5 NA here in EU have that symbol (except the early version).

The so called 'toilet seat' model that we got in 92 for US market 93 cars was known as the Mazda Eteral Flame I believe.
