how much powah that little guy puts out will be interesting.
Diesel engines are good for the brand but I wonder if they'll offer it here as diesels haven't really caught on here as much as other parts of the world.

good to hear it's coming here but Diesel prices are a problem as MM stated.
just checked and every local gas station in the area has Disel between $.35 and $.45 more then Regular 87 octane fuel. Cheapest within a few miles of me now is $4.40 a gallon.
Consumers here are very 'sensitive' to the idea of Diesel and with it costing more, Mazda (and most companies that offer diesel variants) have an uphill battle ahead of them.

No, they probably wont.
Even with 25% or so better fuel economy, the fuel cost per mile here is at least 25% more for diesel than gas. And that is in "urbanized" areas like LA where Jedi is or here in Phoenix.
Go to places like Iowa and diesel is as much as 50% more expensive than gasoline.

Diesel cost more in EVERY Country..
So lets see, would I buy a new Prius (here) which is more than twice the price of the new Sky D.
Use diesel fuel which will cost more (10%), but get the same if not better economy than a Prius....now lets see..
USA should get with it, diesel is sold here at every gas station..

mazda already said sky-d will be here 2 years later. First will be sky-g and its coming at the end of this uear in 2012's Mazda3.
Diesel cost about 10-40 cents above regular in nyc but one thing u all forgot is that, most idiots in the us fill their tank with premium even tho their car never need it ... They have been so brainwashed that thy thought premium some how burns better/cleaner, its just better for the car. And premium's price is about the same as diesel most of the time. So to them cost to fill up isnt really a factor.
What mazda(or anybody promotes diesel like VW) needs to do is they have to let ppl know that diesel these days is actually cleaner than they thought. Cuz a lot of dumbasses are still living in 1960s who thought diesel is for trucka and its dirty as hell.

diesel costs more now because of the low sulfur standard that was put in place a few years back, the corn subsidy is about to die in the latest round of US budget deficit reduction cuts, E85 was only 30 cents less than regular on my latest trip through the Midwest which makes it a total financial loser since you only get 60% mileage as compared to gasoline, on a performance turbo engine is is hot snot though ...

I have never seen a gas station that doesn't sell diesel here in Dallas. Diesel and Premium Gas cost the same here in Dallas as well, both are 3.60 a gallon right now. Thats only .10 to .15 cents more a gallon than regular is so for the fuel mileage difference it would be worth it here.

The Corksport article says Mazda estimates 48MPG? That's really not high enough. It's a GREAT mileage figure yes, but with the number of 40+ MPG gas cars here or coming (including from Mazda), the Sky-D needs to get 55-60 if it is to accomplish anything besides steal a few sales from VW.
People aren't going to do the math in their heads and see that they are paying 10% more for diesel but getting more than 20% better mileage than gas. Mazda will need to do some heavy "700 miles per tank" advertising.
