Mazda News Potpourri

A bunch of news articles the last couple of days I hadnt got around to so instead of a whole bunch of new threads i figured i would just make one big jumble thread.

First up- Mazda creates certified used car program
Mazda's certified pre-owned program includes all 2006-2010 Mazda cars, SUVs and trucks with less than 60,000 miles. Vehicles will have either the remaining balance of the factory warranty or an additional 12-month/12,000-mile comprehensive warranty, as well as a seven-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. Mazda notes that as with all its new-car warranties, there is no deductible or co-pay for warrantable repairs.

Buyers of CPO Mazda vehicles will also receive roadside assistance at no extra cost for the balance of the powertrain warranty period, which covers flat-tire changing, battery-jump, lock-out and fuel delivery.
Thats a pretty good deal. Another year on the b2b and 7yr powertrain with roadside assistance? That would have been enough for us to look for our used Mazda 5 at Mazda dealerships instead of every where else.

Mazda hopes to sell 20k to 30k o f the new Mazda 5 annually in the US

http://www.egmcartech.com/2010/07/02...da5s-annually/
http://wot.motortrend.com/6661840/au...ans/index.html

The most they sold in the US before is a hair over 22k but this new one is better in MPG and the interior is upgraded, especially the dash. It'll come with the 2.0 DISI with SiSS according to other sources which would mark the first use of SiSS in the US i believe.

Note: The automotive news article that is the source for the reports says "It remains unclear whether the U.S. version will get the start-stop feature."

Ford is also bringing something in this segment soon as well as another automaker i cant remember at the moment so that should help push overall sales up as it brings attention to the segment.

I disagree with MotorTrend's " its never been a runaway success" and then comparing it to Honda sales. First its in a different segment. Its a much smaller car than the Odyssey. 2nd except for 2009 year sales have been up every year since 2005. and 2009 was still its 2nd best year. In some quarters its been the reason Mazda USA was up at all. Thats pretty good success for something that doesnt get any advertising.

I see they have a AWD version in Japan now with the non disi 2l. Id kinda hope they would bring that to the States. But their would be a Fuel efficiency decrease that might make it a poor seller.

There is a good photo album of the Japanese model HERE

The next article I found on SlashGear Mazda Plans on Building a Life-Sized Scalextric Track with Real Cars

They got it from CrunchGear who got it from Autoblog who got it from the Press Release (below)

For the Goodwood Festival of Speed, this weekend, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the MX-5/Miata, Mazda will be building a Full Scale Slot Car track. They will be using Actual Mazda Vehicles including a 1990 Miata, a 10 anniversar Miata and a California SpecEd Miata among others. Im hoping this means that visitors to the stand will actually be able to grab the controller and do some racing

watch youtube for videos!

Relive your childhood motoring dreams with Mazda at the Goodwood Festival of Speed

* Relive your childhood motoring dreams with life-sized Scalextric on the Mazda stand
* Celebrate 20 years of the iconic Mazda MX-5 through the ages
* Hill climb spectacular with MX-5 Superlight concept and MX-5 endurance race car

Relive your childhood dreams of playing with a life-sized Scalextric track on the Mazda stand at this weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed (1-4th July) which features 20 years of Mazda MX-5.

This year, Goodwood Festival of Speed has added a Moving Motor Show day on Thursday where visitors have the chance to drive cars up the famous Hill climb. Mazda will have the Mazda MX-5 road car available for visitors to drive as well as passenger rides in the MX-5 race car. Held in the grounds of Lord March's Goodwood estate in Sussex the event has become the world's largest celebration of motoring culture.

Making its UK debut at Goodwood is the MX-5 Superlight concept, which will feature in the Supercar category on the hill climb. The topless - and windscreen-less - Mazda MX-5 Superlight Version show car made its debut at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show where it was one of the most talked about concepts. Mazda has no plans to put it into production but has used the Superlight as a showcase for the lightweight technology that it is introducing across its full range of production cars.

Making extensive use of carbon fibre and aluminium, the Mazda Superlight weighs in at 995kg, some 144kg lighter than the heaviest production MX-5. The concept is fully driveable, as Goodwood festival-goers will discover, and is powered by a 125bhp, 1.8-litre turbocharged engine paired with a five-speed manual gearbox.

Mazda will also be competing on the hill climb with a Mazda MX-5 endurance race car. This car will be contesting in a number of Britcar races this year in the UK, including the 24 hour race at Silverstone in October.

Jeremy Thomson, managing director for Mazda UK explained the concept behind the Goodwood show stand: "Mazda will certainly stand out from the crowd with a life-sized Scalextric track to celebrate 20 years of the MX-5, which is still the world's most popular roadster today."

The life-sized Scalextric track will feature the iconic MX-5 through the ages with the 1st generation 1990 original, the 1992 MX-5 California Special Edition and the 10th Anniversary model showing how the original MX-5 design is still relevant even today.

Joining the historic models will be the 2nd generation Le Mans Limited Edition in orange and green 787B Le Mans-winning race car colours, along with the 3rd generation MX-5 endurance race car celebrating Mazda's motorsport heritage.

Bringing the Mazda stand up to date is the MX-5 20th Anniversary Edition launched in March and the MX-5 Miyako Special Edition which hits showrooms from 1 July. Visitors to the Mazda stand at Goodwood will have the chance to win one of twenty exhilarating Zoom-Zoom Weekends, themed around style, fun, performance and challenge, in a national prize draw taking place across the UK, until 24th September 2010.

The MX-5 display is surrounded by an MX-5 'crowd' with the strapline "MX-5: Once driven thrills are harder to find" echoing the "Thrillseekers" marketing campaign which is illustrated by some unique virals featuring Zoom Zoom activities such as 'condor flying' and 'lilo rafting'. For more information visit www.mazda.co.uk/thrillseekers or to view the film visit www.youtube.com and search 'Mazda MX5 Thrill'.

"Mazda's Zoom-Zoom philosophy is about exhilarating experiences and the thrill of challenges, which the competition winners will experience during an exciting weekend of activity, while enjoying the use of a Mazda MX-5 roadster, Mazda CX-7 crossover or Mazda3 MPS high performance hatchback," explained Claire Andrews, Senior Marketing Manager, Mazda UK.

Mazda Canada gets new assistant In the form of a newly created MNAO position " vice-president on assignment"

Mazda North American Operations said Thursday it named Ron Stettner its new vice president of sales.

Stettner was previously the automaker's midwest regional general manager. His replacement has not yet been named.

Eric Johnston, who was previously the vice president of sales, will replace Nobuyuki "Nick" Sato as vice president of strategic planning and market integration. Sato has been appointed to the newly created position of vice president on assignment as assistant to the president of Mazda Canada Inc.

All the changes are effective immediately.
In summary a bunch of people change positions to fill vacancies when Nick Sato was appointed to teh new VP position. Not really newsworthy but it makes me wonder:
Why does the head of Mazda Canada needs an "assistant" who is a VP of MNAO
