Mazda Tokyo MotorShow press conference (english subs) of RX-VISION launch added on thread home page for those who did not see it live, 720p is the best definition available with sub titles unfortunately..
IIRC, the CAFE initiative and the Euro 5 emissions standards were the nail in the RX8 coffin. They sell so many 40 mpg sedans now, maybe they can offset the low mpg rotary engine? Can they not sell the car in Europe, and it still be financially viable?
Being from europe, I noticed that the Rx-8 is not as popular in Europe as it is in the other markets. But the other thing is car manufacturers get a higher margin per car sold in Europe than they do in the US. So while Mazda may not sell as many rx-8's in europe they might have a higher profit from those sold in europe than elsewhere.
I think it's that there isn't anything left to talk about until they release more information. The main question at this point is what the engine will be like.
The silence from me is because it's not very pretty to my eye (not a big deal as RX-EVOLV wasn't either), we have nearly zero information about the engine, and it is a long, long, long way from production.
I'm out of gas until they show the next iteration - or not - at a motor show a year or more from now.

I agree, just a few put off observations, the straight lines do not do it for me at all, it looks like they used plywood to style the sides, the rear turn signals are well............. tiny when it's more important to be seen especially from the rear, people already have a problem noticing when you signal. Why would the hood need to be that long with a rotary in it? Is it going to be a 3 rotor? That might be a bit more intriguing and why not go all they way? Except that's more dirty air to clean up but if you do it with one rotor then additional emissions are not so much harder to clean up. Just not my taste whatsoever in it's current offering.
Interesting read about the issues of lubrication and contact pressures of apex seals. They seem to be busy I found an interesting article about flame propagation in a RE published the same date.
For something that is only a concept and with Mazda's history not sure why anyone is complaining. There was a lot of responses to this thread leading up to and after the Vision's debut.
Years of discussion about if there would even BE a concept, much less an actual production model.
Then a concept is finally announced resulting in 23 pages of discussion about anything imaginable about the imagining of a hypothetical concept.
I'm open to any original ideas, otherwise I'll wait for some new information.
Thanks for the awesome pictures, it is very much a future RX-7 concept.
