I think it looks great. I hope the new RX7 is based off this design theme. Could be a great looking sports car, and #5 for me. I'm also hoping for steering column mounted paddles with a really quick shifter.

Oh snap son.
Looks like a really good platform. 2 door coupe anyone? I swear to god Mazda must hang out on this forum and think of ways to **** with us. Definitely a rotary teaser. And yeah 7K is a bit low for a rotary but keep in mind that the engine may not only be turbocharged but also bigger than the Renesis.
Sigh...I had my heart pretty set on a new 5.0, now I guess I'll have to see what this is all about when Mazda releases it

Seriously. That hood is big enough to have a 20B, an LS7, AND a battery motor. When the rotary engine dies you still have 2 engines left
Edit: Now that I think about it, if you want to rev to 14K and not be certain you'll make it to work without breaking down use the rotary. Switch to the LS7 for kill-zone mode, and if you're a loser with no friends switch over to the battery engine. Its perfect!

幹他媽!
thanks for sharing the article & pix...
but, ugh! what are they trying to build? a friggen jag or aston? what's with the size of that thing? the gran turismo looks a hella lot better than that fugly whale...
i still like the old concepts better... mazda is starting to stick it's head up its rear...

7k may not be as low as you think, even NA. Remember, that the 16X has different geometry from the 13Bs. It has that longer stroke.
Even the furai's engine was based off the renesis geometry. I don't ever remember seeing a spec for what the 16x rev'd to. Who knows how that longer stroke impacts rev speed.

The 2-rotor 16X is probably whats going in. But I wonder what would be more reliable/easier for Mazda to do: a mass produced 3-rotor or a factory turbocharged 2-rotor? Either way Mazda needs to get some power under that things hood. One, to match the looks and two, the competition is tight. 300 bhp in a $30K car is old news. If Mazda wants to up their sales of the rotary they need to come out with something big that make the car reviewers say "gone are the days of the under-powered and torque-less rotary engine". I'd vote for a ligit 320 bhp minimum. It may be tough, it may not even be possible but thats the truth about Mazda's sports car competition.

.... but seriously when has any concept car ever looked good?? They are always way over exaggerated with their curves and turn out completely different with a few characteristics that stay.
You aren't meant to picture urself driving this concept, it is supposed to show what direction Mazda is facing at the moment. To me this seems like a RWD agressive looking car with hints to a continuation of an improved Rotary Fingers crossed. It's exciting.
Anyone else notice the RX8 resembling flared front fenders when looking from the front? I would love to see a shorter stanced coup version of this... with a shorter engine bay.

To be honest I could care less if it has a rotary. I want sports sedan with a fair amount of HP that handles the corners (relatively speaking) very well that comes with a manual transmission and gets decent MPG. It needs to have enough interior room for me and the family.

Interesting..
IMO a little too heavy in the front...if it was ever to be rotary where are the Oil Cooler(s)..
At least we see a new direction...I see all elements of those gone by..

this is PRETTY FREAKIN' AWESOME
the engine in that little dash graphic looks a bit too big to be a rotary
imho, it's quite a slick design that's a bit more euro than traditionally japanese. aside from the badge and the front grille, there's very little mazda in the design. or, it's mazda as i've never seen it. this was quite a shocker, almost made me s*** my pants...in a good way =P
while it's very much a concept, it's also less wild and wacky as some other recent mazda concepts. i'm trying to figure out what this is supposed to be, and the most reasonable guess is an early concept for the next atenza/6. but the proportions make it look rwd. it seems unlikely that mazda would seriously consider going upmarket with a rwd sports sedan (but hey, if it happens, i'm onboard). it also looks quite large, maybe jag xf size, but it just might be 'cuz how low and sleek it is
WOW
