you can say Mazda got lucky, but I can say the same to whoever the winner was for the past. (or any other race events)
"Oh yeah they won because __________'s car DNF !!!"
To me it doesn't matter if other team's driver got a stomachache during the race and **** in the car and gotta DNF
a Win, is a WIN

well you can say that, but DNF happens all the time in motorsports, its just part of the "game."

The cars and engines were great but luck played a role too and we must remember this.

I know Mercedes got pissed, LOL !

All endurance races and especially 24 hour events require luck just to stay out of wrecks and not get tire punctures. The amount of effort and strategy involved in these long races is incredible.
So, again, Mazda did not have the most race pace (Quickest, fastest car) but they more than deserved their win. They spent one tenth of what some teams have spent at LeMans and they took home gold. The best thing about rotaries in racing is durability and the 787b had that and much more that day.

this is 100% correct and is the real meaning of 1991 win at LM. David CAN beat Goliath, obviously Goliath had some transmission issues

The Mercedes could've had a 8L V10 Twin Turbo with 900hp for all I care... Reliability is key to any endurance races. Remember, the more complicated the engine, the more to go wrong. Same goes for weight and power.

The 787B was restored by Mazda engineers who had participated in the Le Mans project 20 years ago.

Even if they unban it, Mazda probably won't go back, at least not for another couple of years, because this is a money burning game and sadly, the economy right now does not allow a small/mid size company like Mazda to play again right now.
A lot of ppl didn't know Mazda actually won Le Mans, this might be a good time to remind the whole world that Mazda is much better than they thought and rotary engine PWNZ

NYCGPS I think you and I share similar thinking...
After owning this car I dont think I could go buy anything that uses Pistons, unless its a DD. This car is just so much fun... Rotary > Pistons...

I already have a piston as my dd, Mazda 3
Even I said dd, its more like a 60/40 ratio, the 3 takes the 60 part
Hohohoho, I can't wait till I get the money to give my 8a fresh repaint

I hope you guys are joking (And laughing at my expense ): The rotary is not banned and was not banned. We ran 3 and 4 rotor cars at Le Mans after that (With a class win in 96 by the way). We ran a 4 rotor car up to 2002 in a Welter Racing chassis with Yojiro Terada (Owns AutoExe and has driven for Mazdaspeed forever).
Anyhow; it was not banned .
Paul.
