google search Mazda Bakkie for your edification
True, my first Mazda was a '99 B3000 Troy Lee Edition (before the RX-8). I bought it instead of the Ford Ranger Spalsh Edition. I only spent $19k for mine, extended cab, lifted, 17 inch tires, and with a 3L V6; all stock. Whereas the Ranger with only the standard equipment cost almost the same.

Come to think of it, the BT-50 might be a Ranger in disguise... That's how the previous B-Series trucks were, Ford parts with a Mazda badge.

BTW, my B3000 had suicide doors, I could imagine that the RX8 engineers partly have used the idea from it

You are very correct, having personally owned a B2000 Cab Plus Pick up or Ute in the mid 80's , she was terrific, road like a car, great until a mate totaled it after loaning it to him...DUI!..Luckily I got a payout..

The Commodore Ute, it NOT in the same class as the BT-50, one is a purpose built, the other is a car with the back cut off, the Holden is larger and has a slightly larger payload, and is Not latest design Regs....it is 4 years Old, this Holden would NOT comply if built new today for 2012 MY...Fact.

For memory Mazda Australia is looking to sell between 600 and 1000 BT-50's a month, a lot more than the US..

After all Mazda's in Australia is their largest market in the world.
More people here purchase a Mazda than any other market/country..including Japan...
New Zealand 2nd, Israel 3rd.% wise.

It is amazing, in the time I spend on the internet, how often that glaringly obvious fact is overlooked.

Official Launch by #1 Mazda BIG Boss Takashi Yamanouchi, I am surprised how well he speaks English, the first time I have heard from him, he sounds very switched on and impressive.

Some here may be too young to remember when Japanese B series Mazda trucks were a real force to be reckoned with and won many awards and accolades as a light pickup truck. 86-93 B2000, B2200, B2600 were all REALLY good trucks; they drove very smooth, somewhat like cars. I worked at the dealer in 94 when the re-badged Ford Rangers replaced the Japanese trucks. That was a sad day.

BT50 will do quite well in the markets it is designed for. Those who don't get it (In their market) are the same crowd who don't 'get it'.

Paul.

Nice truck but if you really tow anything that little truck is useless. That F350 above may look ugly but it will Tow 15,000 pounds all day long.

But for hauling light stuff and cruising around town it looks like a nice little truck. You Aussies get all the cool small trucks. Especially the Diesel 4x4's.

yeah it was somewhat of a guarded secret that the Mazda version of the Ranger cost less than the equivalent Ford.

But as Paul points out above , up until 94 they were Mazda trucks. After that, because of some tarriff issues and Mazda's own financial troubles, they were rebadged Rangers. Outside the US they continued producing their own truck.

These BT-50s are Mazda designed and built . Mazda and Ford do share a plant in Thailand where these will be produced for the world market but its a Mazda product not a rebadged Ranger.

As for "which looks better"..

The VW Amarok (made in Argentina) debut at Sydney Show also, tried to upstage Mazda and Ford.

Now, the BT-50 looks FAR more up to date than this South American looking relic.

Really, VW's look all the same, apart from Beetle.

Even the new Ranger looks Old..

In Australia I can tell you now the BT-50 will kill the Ford sales wise.

Looks wise, just don't appeal at all for a truck

Sorry but for trucks, I sway more towards American than foreign brands for looks and performance.

Do not like.

It looks like a Mazda minivan designer and a stay at home soccer mom got together and designed it.

Toyota is about the only foreign brand that pulls off a decent look and stance towards trucks. Sorry Ash but I alike to some here, I think you're delusional to think the American trucks are fugly contrast to the foreign ones

Yeah my dad watched the Titans come off the line in TN back in 04' and bought one immediately and after and it has had 130,000 plus trouble free use and tows heavy loads often. I think they are pretty good looking as well.

Personally, I think most trucks that are coming out are HIDEOUS. The BT-50 included. I like the look of the new Chevy/GMC trucks, but I still would not want one.

I never said anything about Ford, and in fact, it's my least liked brand out of the American base out of all of them. But still, the foreign models have a lot of catching up to do in regards to the truck base area.

Glad you're laughing, so was I with your posts
