Mazdas big announcement in the next few weeks.
Don't know if anybody was watching the Grand Am race yesterday, one of the announcers said Mazda will be announcing something big , regarding to racing and mentioned that it would be affecting the rotary teams in the future. This announcement will be made known at the next race.
Possible new Skyactive rotary? Skyactive hybrid rotary? Skyactive piston motor in a new Mazda 6 race car?

Its not a rotary...
speed source spent several hours helping us on our rx8 at new jersey this weekend. Even Mr Trmblay himself stopped over to see how things were going. they are really great group of guys although they wouldn't tell me what the plan was

People need to remember that even the last 2 years that a Mazda was run in the ALMS series, the rotary was dropped for an AER built 4 cylinder since it's was more relevant to current technology engines. It was hardly a street based engine but put a Mazda badge on it and people won't know the difference!

We know it isn't a rotary since Mazda isn't going to dump tons of money for another year on a car they don't sell.
We know it is going to be something bigger than b-spec since they want TV coverage and have the means to do much bigger things than b-spec
we know Dempsey will be in ALMS leaving Sahlens and Speedsource left for Mazda... I am guessing Speedsource sticks with mazda... but I honestly don't have the entire answer and if I did I wouldn't spill the beans

Stephen- My wife and I stopped to talk to you Sat. at NJMP. Great to meet you and GOOD LUCK in future races. Was that you pulled over on the side of the road on RT. 55 in NJ Sunday around 5 pm ? We were in the passing lane with a 4 car caravan and I couldn't get over to the shoulder to see if you needed help. Hope your RX8 didn't breakdown. We'll keep an eye out for you at Lime Rock in Sept. If that's it for the RX8's in Grand Am, well I'm glad we"ll be there. Hellva run for that 20b 1.9L 3-rotor.
