When will you guys get it..
The RX-8 Just does not have the development potential for MORE HP, etc, etc.
And gains you see in banger engine design..
Mazda have spent 40 years getting the engine where it is today..at it's limits.
Any add ons like turbo, supercharging, or whatever compromises emissions, reliability, economy, and last PRICE.
IMO this is it, the end of the road for the 8 in a few more years (2012)..
Unfortunately..
I have heard from too many sources that it is the end of the line..
I will repeat if all those who say 'Mazda are committed to the rotary'... well of course they are while they are still making/selling them!
In 2011 the car will fall of the radar.
You can kick my *** if I am wrong

"The Z may be faster, but the RX-8 is the better sports car."—edmunds.com RX-8 vs. 350-Z shootout
"The RX-8 is different, but it's a true sports car. For this, Mazda should thank the intensity of its rotary engine. The truth is, the rotary engine has incredibly powerful imagery, and it defines Mazda in a world where brand identity is hard to come by."—Automobile Magazine
"…the challenge of maintaining velocity in this car is ultimately more rewarding than relying on the gas pedal in the others to make up for your mistakes. That’s not to say some extra power isn’t sorely needed here — it is — but even at the ripe old age of five, the RX-8 pleases us the most."—Car and Driver comparo (1st place vs Audi TT, Nissan 350Z, Mustang), June 2007

Yup. A hundred years from now, it's what Mazda will be remembered for. (And not just for the engine, itself. The rotary represents Mazda's commitment to innovative thinking, engineering, and technology. That's why the 8 is the flagship—fastest or slowest, it's a symbol that represents everything Mazda is about.)

I'll snap his neck.
The RX-8 is definitely a niche car.
And while we'd all like to see more power, as others have said this car is not all about power. That's why it's a niche car. The rotary's size and light weight is what allows us to have 4 seats, a decent trunk for a sports car, and still have sports car dimensions.
And if power is everything, tell me this - one of my wife's coworkers drives an E46 M3 and does track days regularly. When he found out I had an 8 and was going to take it to the track for the first time (leaving in about two hours!), he went on and on about how this 8 passed him easily at autobahn on his last track day. Turns out it was devildog with his MS mods I believe the e46 has about 300hp, so obviously power is not everything.
Unfortunately most people don't understand that, because most people won't consider an 8 because of its lower power figures.

Mazdaspeed left their flasgship sports car out to dry. They appear only to want to play with off the shelf turbo piston engines. Mazdaspeed did not have the ***** to do FI for the rotary. Mazdaspeed don't even compare to the pro-tuners doing things for the RX-8, and they work for Mazda.
Bottom line Mazdaspeed sucks dirt. They should be called Mazda "enhance" or Mazda "little extra", etc....

that's one of the main reasons why the FD was no longer sold in the US in 95 was because of tightening emmissions standards
