Mazdaspeed MX-5 value
I've tried to find some info on the resale value of 2003 MS Protege to compare the possible resale value of the 2004 MS Miata. I figured since there will only be 4000, and the fact that its a Mazdaspeed version that it wont lose its value. I can manage getting one for $50 bucks over invoice and that would put me around 24,300 before TTL...is it realistic that if I were to sell in 2-3 yrs I could get close to that???????

Buying a car and then selling it 2-3 years later is about the worst thing you can do to yourself economically. If you can get an MS miata for 24,300 and want one I say go for it. "Close to" is a relative term. Any car will lose a significant amount of its value once it has been driven off the lot. A production number of 4000 probably isn't low enough for there to be a huge demand in the market. I am sure the ms miata will hold its value better relative to other cars because it has such a huge following of enthusiasts. I say get the car and have fun and don't worry too much about how much money you will lose. I really doubt you will be able to sell it for over $20,000 2-3 years down the line unless you don't drive it.

2-3 years was just an estimate. With the new cars that are coming out the next few years it would be a possibility(like perhaps the MS RX-8)...it would be my 2nd car so mileage would not be an issue...Thanx for the reply KC-Prelude, I thought 20,000 would be a good guess. There is more to the question at hand in making this consideration...Thanx

if they dont make anymore after the run of 4000 comes out and you keep the miles really really really low and the car runs as good as new, them maybe you could get close to what you paid for it about 10-20 years from now.

The resale value of Miatas drops pretty sharply in the first 2-3 years. The MS might fare a little better, but only time will tell. You might consider waiting until the fall/winter when there will be more rebates and incentives.

Just think 2-3 years from now there will be a new Miata out that might be better than the current MS version for the same price. And that new Miata might have a limited MS version too. And don't forget new competitors like the Solstice or the VW Concept-R etc that might be fairly good. Lots of things might impact resale value 2-3 years from now, usually for the worse.
