Mercedes R500

Passed one of these the other day and at first was sure it was the new ML but turned out to be the new MB R series. It seats 6 but after that no luggage. It's sort of a station wagon/minvan. Is there really a market for this car when prices start at $50k can range upwards of $70k? MB seems to think so..

My thoughts.. MB R series

just because YOU don't think its worth it to pay 70g doesn't mean R-class is %&$&. I drove a R500 and it is a very respectable automobile. I sat 5 people in the car, pumping some trance through the HK Logic 7 on the way to the club on a friday night, and believe me this car is a pimp mobile.

comfortable, lots of room, luxurious, sporty, great handling, great engine, fast 7spd tranny. I smoked some nice sports cars on the way also. go drive one without negativity in your mind, this car is a winner.

For $70Gs? NO SIR. I'm sure there are some folks that like it enough to buy it--and I'm sure there will be some lames that use this to 'pimp' and parking lot pimp the club.

^^ Does kinda look like an SRX/Pacifica hybrid. And I am seeing quite a bit of both vehicles on the roads lately.

70k seems a bit much, though? But, I'm all for it if it help curb the tide of SUVs...

it looks like a pacifica? well i thought we were all car enthusiasts here, i guess not since you can't tell the difference between the two cars.

like every car enthusiasts do, go drive one and you'll change your view on this car.

So with 5 people in the car, on the way to a night club, you raced and beat some sports cars?

yes, i'm sure i passed a rx8 too.

go TEST DRIVE one. how many times do i have to repeat myself? TEST DRIVE. oh sorry may be you got turned down...

while i'm at it, let me ask a question, from my first response to this thread, why am i getting attacked? i have not said one thing to offend/attack anyone. i told you my experience and that is all i said. as a person, i definetly see a market for it, and so is BMW.

hmmm, longer than an escalade, gross weight of over 6000 lbs, 0-60 in 7.4s....i smell bs as well. albeit, it does have rather nice amenities and is well appointed, i'd rather spend my 70K on a cayman. but to each their own i guess

Well--I actually didn't just call you lame--but your bitch *** mouth just showed me otherwise. I wouldn't pay twenty dollars for that minivan. Folks have different taste--I don't know of any women that will be flocking to that minivan--maybe if you put it on 22s or something you'll get a couple of glances--but other than that you'd better have a hell of a mouth piece if you think you'll be pulling some women with that. EVERYTHING that cost $70K looks better than that.

to each his own rite? if your cheap *** didnt' bitch in the first place i wouldn't have been bitching would i? read back to my first message and see if i was being a bitch to you. NO I WASN'T.

if you are pulling tough guy on me by cursing at me behind your computer, i'm very scared.

and again, you are not making sense. "EVERYTHING looks better"? didn't you just say "Folks have different taste"? so shut your wise mouth please

termigni,

How is someone going to test drive that thing if they can't get over its looks? It's obviously not yours, maybe a close relative or a friends vehicle, but maybe beauty is in the eye of the beholder? My question was more if people believe there is a market for a luxurious butt ugly people mover Benz usuch as this. I see a market for this in less expensive cars a la the Mazda5.

And on the contrary, if you are referring to BMW's V-series it will be more like a car and less like a van. "Less plain and spacious than the R class."

no offense to subaru, mitsubish fans,

i know many people test drove STi and EVO despite the fact they are butt ugly. so why can't i SUGGEST people to test drive this car which is the topic of this thread? if you don't like the looks or have any interest in this car, you would've not started this thread. so all i'm saying is go test drive this car before talking junk. it drives like a sedan, spacious than many mini vans, and luxury like S-class. there is nothing like it if you need all these mentioned and are looking for some upscaled luxury minivan.

*edit; I don't think sti or evo is ugly but many of rx8 forum member tend to think that way.

i want to mention that there is JCPenny department store and Saks 5th Ave. JCPenny charges $15 for a graphic T-shirt and Saks charges $85 for a T-shirt. remember Saks 5th Ave is still operating.

Yea, definitely not a car for me, but it's got the Mercedes badge, meaning someone will buy it.

Hey guys, how about we chill out a bit? Termigni, this forum doesn't allow posts about street racing, so getting crazy with someone in here after breaking rules isn't normally a good idea. Just giving you a heads up man.

People might drive a car that's butt ugly if it's a great performer because it's performance makes up for what it lacks in the looks department. With the R class, you have a butt ugly slow *** people mover that's more likely a rich housewife's wet dreams, you're not going to get anyone excited to drive that thing at it's price and looks.

What a joke. You didn't "smoke" any sports cars in that thing. 0-60 in 6.5 seconds. Then add in your 4 passengers, another 500 lbs or so and you'd be looking mid 7's.

Don't lie on the internet. It's lame. You don't have to justify your moms purchase to us.

lie? not everyone knows how drive their manual shift PERFECTLY. secondly, how do you know if it was a AT RX8? I did not lie so dont' try to rub in that statement. and also thank you for giving me those numbers. i did not know that b4. you should at least give it some credit for running those incredible numbers with its weight and equipment.

Obviously not one of you drove this car yet. well, this is a wrong forum to be talking about it and to be defending about this $70G luxury minivan in the first place.

remember when Rx8 was first introduced? 4 door 'sports car'? what was everyone's reaction? yea, it turned out to be a great car that all of you love. but still there are many people that are sitting afar from the 8 because it is odd.

This R500 isn't made to perform like a sports car. it has totally different purpose. and it is different. room, luxury, bla..bla..bla... but at the same time it drives like a champ, not another mazda 5. this car can haul ***.

i'm not a MB rep. or anything, I'm just a guy next door, that drove this car for couple days and i have a lot of respect for what its got. if S-class or 750iL or all those big luxury sedans can sell, I dont' see a reason that this car won't be popular, in the market it was aimed at.

we are talking about the R in Gen. Automotive. let's grow up people.

the r500 is basically an answer to a question that no one's asking, along the same lines as the crossfire (hmmm, another daimer-chrysler). you say you'r not a mb rep, but you sure sound like a fanboi, esp. with a ml in your garage. you want everyone to grow up? who's racing "sports cars" in a mini-van on the way to the club w/ trance pounding out the windows?
