I think the miata doesnt look bad at all. Granted I do think it is kind of girly in some aspects. I had considered it before buying the 8 but then I sat on it and all was lost. I am 6'2" 185 pounds and I fit pretty good except for the fact that my eyes were being blocked by the upper trim of the windshield So in other words I felt it was too small for me.
I really do hope the next RX is at least a 2 + 2 because that is one of the reasons I bought the RX8 over a 350z or a S2000. And I have used those 2 back seats numerous times.
Guess we will have to wait and see.

^^haha, same reason for me.
I checked out an 03 miata at the dealership I used to work at, it only had 4,000 miles on it in 08 , wow. I sat in it and my head was higher than the windshield and both my legs were pressed against the dash Im 6'6'' 260lbs.

i edited the "for men" out of the title . i know rob meant it as a fun poke at the miata drivers but... the miata is raced more than any other car on the planet. that makes it manly enough for me
now as to the coupe jeff posted-
they did build that jeff. sold for like a year japan only starting in 2004. they made @ 350 i think. it weighed slightly more than the vert i believe.
etc etc

Yep, definitely friendly since I too have an old, lightly modded Miata in my barn garage. Gotta take it out of the closet some day soon, haven't driven it in a couple of weeks.

Had they actually built this (I took these pics at SEMA on 2003), I would have bought it instead of my RX-8.
There probably won't be another RX-8. There definitely won't be another RX-7 or anything like it.
The MX-5 is Mazda's sports car. The '8 is just a weird tick in their product line.
And with each passing year, it gets closer and closer to the axe.

if they had produced it, a hard top miata would have definitely been something i would have considered.
i dont think they will ever kill the rx line permanently. hiatus maybe. too much history doing things with their own motor. but maybe like apple with their motorola processors they'll finally give up that futile battle.

You can put a candle in a pile of dog crap and call it a Birthday cake... but it is still a pile of crap with a candle in it.
The local Pontiac dealer is also the Mazda dealer, he sells 10 Miata's a month, to just one or two Solstice's a month. Of course this is in California... more a place where the word import is not a dirty word like in Texas or the mid-west.

They really need to make the Miata more sleek and sexy. The current one is way too boring. It looks like a tic tac. Or a bar of soap. Nobody lusts over a bar of soap. This is probably why it lost sales to the Sol/Sky even though it is a better car.
And HELL YEAH they need to make a coupe version. There's definitely a huge hole in the 2-seater market -- I think there's many people who want the safety and security of a fixed roof and the storage space of a hatchback, but don't want something so bloated and expensive as the 350z.
And while they're at it, offer a rotary model as well. The low-power 4-port would be more than enough -- there's a reason the 1st gen RX-7 sold several times more than the other two combined, keep it simple, reliable and cheap and they will have a similar success again IMO.

The fact is, none of us really know what Mazda is going to do in the next 5 years, including you. Including Mazda, actually, to some extent. It's speculation on both sides, including your side.
EDIT: Also, if you read what I ACTUALLY SAID, you'll see that my argument is based on Mazda's history, not magazine articles. I've never even seen a magazine article about the next RX car or the 16x; I don't read car magazines.

The dealers can't give the Solstice GXP or Sky Redline away in my area of Northern CA... they got brand new ones sitting on the lot for 6 months with $10,000 off stickers on them.
