I dissagree, it is racing. You may not be going wheel to wheel, but you are comparing times after completing a lap. In comparison, drifting isn't racing. You may have 2 cars on the same track competing, but in the end it is a judged event. The winner is based on human emotions over the performance.

It is a form of motorsport competition, like time attack events."Racing" usually involves moving towards a goal at the same time as the other competitors.
Drifting... meh, that's a waste of rubber!
Anyway i feel an assh*le for driving this so far offtopic

Damn i was hoping porsche would bring Rohl to drive. I'm sure this is all hype for mini and nothing else. I think a CS would still do quite well in AutoX. They rotate very well and have tons of grip low end.

they are definitely getting tons of publicity over this.

At this point, I'm not sure mini even cares about having a race... it's not like there's going to be any difference with what's on the table now. The way I see it, there's a few things that could happen. Porsche probably wont show. There's a chance this whole thing is planned out and they will, in which case, they might show. Mini finds something to actually convince porsche to show. The best thing I can think of is if they make it a race for charities. That's when it could look bad for porsche, unless they just donate the money regardless of a race or something like that.

If Mini is serious, they really should build a real race car and enter a real racing event. Could you imagine a GT2 class Mini in the ALMS? I can't either. Mini surely had to have something up their sleeves as they were going going down faster than a Peugeot race engine. It's not really any surprise that Porsche turned them down. It doesn't mean they are scared either. it's really no different than turning down a challenge at a stoplight from some kid in a stock Civic 127hp who thinks a fwd Honda is the ****. What's the point?

I definitely get that... I'm just talking about if mini wants any chance of porsche to show up to this specific event they're trying to set up. I'd love to see someone completely unaffiliated with porsche who just tracks his car on the weekends show up and beat their professional driver.

They're like you're bratty little brother. If I were Porsche I would release I giant ******* press release stating the obvious superiority of Porsche over Mini and requesting they stop using Porsche's reputation to market their shitboxes.

Mini has made this entertaining for me. Not in a way that makes me view them positively though. Something about mini makes me think they aren't marketing towards people like me, as I've never quite be convinced they're worth what they cost unless you're really into them and their look.
Sure, porsche is "being mean" and not accepting the invitation, but it's also a joke. There's either a gimmick or the difference is so huge that you can't realistically call it a race.
At this point, my view of mini is that they're about a half step away from just being plain childish. Maybe if they were more serious and realistic, this would actually mean something.

one thing to remember too is that the Mini guy used to work at Porsche. So he's also poking at buddies and former co-workers. I m sure thats why he picked porsche for the challenge.

Mini challenges Porsche to a race. Porsche says no. Mini says oh, c'mon!. Porsche says nothing. And now the people at Mini make the 911 out to be Ivan Drago in this hilarious Rocky IV spoof. 80's montage FTW!
