And yeah...look up the numbers. 1st and 2nd gen SL's and bases were advertised as 222hp. Blah!

You said 222fwhp... Do you own a 3000GT, or is it your dad's?

Whered the whole "is it your dads" thing come into play?

www.google.com

Use it to find stock HP numbers for the 1st and 2nd gens. All sites will say 222.
I'm not saying this is true, but if you consider the weight and the 0-60 times...it sounds about right to me.

when you say fwhp, it means the actual power that the car is making at the front wheels. car makers qoute the crank hp of a car, which is the power made by the drive train at the crank, you loose a lot of that power by the time it gets to the wheels.

the LS makes 222hp at the crank, and probably around ~190 fwhp give or take a few. a car like the new 260hp maxima probably makes around 222fwhp. 222fwhp is a lot of power, a car with that much power should usually be able to do 0-60 in under 6 seconds.

haha...i left it open. Great thing is...you dont know what I look like! :p

And yes, 190fwhp sounds reasonable. What the RX-8 have for factory numbers anyway? I've gotten mixed things, everything from 200-230 hp. I'm thinking around 200 crank?

It has about the same 178-190 rwhp but it's 700lbs lighter.

Most MTs have around 180whp, so probably in the area of 220chp... Still enough to beat a heavyass FWD car like the SL in any performance category, especially anything involving handling. Highway roll would be your best shot but the RX-8 would still pull a little.

Weeeeeeee, streetracing

The SL is heavy, but not that heavy. I think they weigh in the area of 3300-3500 depending on options, the VR-4 is 3800ish IIRC.

Yeah that 700lbs definitely makes a big difference. If only the damn things were lighter...they would be rediculously fast. Its weird though...I've driven both and a swear the SL has faster acceleration. Maybe just because its louder or something :p

You are correct. The VR-4 weighs in at close to two tons!

hahaha very true. They have a shitload of torque. Especially the VR-4's...frigging ~320 @ 2500rpm. Pretty nasty if you ask me.
