My friend is looking for Audi A6.
my friend, big fan of audi, is looking for used audi a6 manual tranny.
It's hard to find 6spd manual AWD audi A6, but he found one in PA.
It's 00' Audi A6 with 6spd manual tranny. It has 80,000 miles and
$12,000. Is it reasonable price?
How is Used audi? hard to maintain? and/or many problem?
I have not owned any audi, so do not know about audi.
Please give me some idea about this car.
Thanks.

if its an a6 2.7T (which im guessin since u mentioned 6speed and hard to find in the same sentence)
i was looking into one long ago, actually i was looking at a B5 S(which shares the same engine as the A6 2.7t) and it is def a bad *** car.
word of advice i was given is
dont buy one unless it has a certified waranty thought audi
buy one which is stock w/ no history of mods done (warranty purposes)???
dont buy one with more than 50k miles
if yo do buy past 50k, make sure the turbo's have been recently serviced and the timing belt/water pump has been seviced.
timing belt change was very $$$ and turbo rebuild was also, somewhere like 3-4k from what i remembr reading since the entire engine has to be dropped down to get to them.
after doin research on the a6/s4 i saw that it was to much of a risk for what i want out of a daily driver...but by taking a chance, your friend may have a great car which may be problem free for years, just tell hi to do the research, a car which has all doccuented services done is more than likely a responsible owner.

might also want to check out consumer report's reliability ratings for the A6 for that year. i had an 01 a4, and something would break every other month. I took it in to get serviced all the time as well, it's just the little things (small electronics errors...)
i do miss that quattro though... damn thing never lost grip.

First of all, thanks for fast reply.
It's 2.7T with 6spd.
He just got the history from Carfax, could not find any accident and/or
recall someting.
But, I do not think there is any warranty something from Audi, but maybe has
warranty from the used car dealer.
We will go to the dealer maybe tomorrow and see how good it is.
So, main things I have to check out are turbo, belt, and water pump?
I do not know what my friend is thinking, but even though it has 80,000 miles,
he may buy it becuase it is really hard to find A6 manual in my area,
especially it is red color exterior.

red was a nice color for it, i personally like the dark gray/gunmetal color...i was pretty sure it was a 2.7t, def is the best out IMO, i actually liked them more than the V8. all i can say is test drive te hell out of it and see how it drives, rev it up to listen for anyawkward noises. alot of S4's ive driven you can hear the turbos make a "chattering noise" which i was told is "shaft play" (which im not all familiar with) but i hear its a good sign the turbo's are ready for rebuilding. try to get under the car and look for leaks or w/e you can find...be very maticulous with checking the car check cv axles and all....and tell ur buddy good luck. if it truly is a tip top shape car he is gonna have a blast with it.

I'd be a little leary of the 2000 MY. There were a lot of reported problems with oil coking around the turbos. There was never any official admission of a problem, e.g. in the form of a TBB, however for the 2001.5 model release of the B5 S4 the oil lines to the 2.7TT were increased in size. I view this as tacit admission of a potential problem. Not sure if this potential problem is as prevalent in the C5 A6's because reportedly, they have a little bit better cooling due to a bigger engine bay. That said, the real factor that will affect turbo longevity is whether or not the engine was properly warmed up before getting on the boost and then allowed time to cool down before putting it away. Unfortunately, unless you know the former owner, you won't have access to that kind of info.
If he hasn't already, have your friend check out AudiWorld.com and look at the 2.7T and C5 A6 forums. He should also check their archives. There's a lot of useful info found therein on common problems and what your friend potentially will be getting into. As a former Audi owner, I highly recommend that site.

A guy I work with had a Audi S4 with that motor and he had so many problems with it. The main problems were the turbos and then once the turbos were replaced the wastegates on the new turbos went bad. The labor for these cars are very expensive since you have to remove the whole front end to do any work on the cars.

i REALLLLLY wanted a 2000-2001 S4 and then ended up opting for the rx8 at the last minute.
The 2.7 is supposidly bulletproof but is notrious for turbo problems. Also, older VW/Audis commonly have a host of electrical problems.
I would say if he has the reserves to dump 5k in the car at any given time, go for it. If hes gonna barely clear the payment, dont even think about it.
JMO.
