My new to me '87 TII RX-7
The Rotary Doctor local to here has a son who loves to take all sorts of RX-7's and have his way with them...well, he got with me for a trade on my 84 RX-7. This one is on the rocks a bit...needs a new throttle cable, leaking coolant from somewhere near the turbo, needs a smaller tire in the front/drivers side, and some minor interior work. Hell, enough of the chit chat, have some pictures!
*god, I love S5 tails...so sexy.*
The evil throttle cable!!
All in all, I think I should be able to keep this thing going!

God, I know. I could live in that thing if worse comes to worse! I really would like to get a good Racing Beat on there, but the exhaust is the least of my worries atm :P

Well, so far I've been doing hob *** fixes...nothing permanent, but so far I've jerry rigged the Throttle Cable to stick together until I get a new one. I've also learned what I'll need to do in order to prevent the Boost Creep of 15PSI!! :O
I am trying to get my hands on a Turbo back Racing Beat exhaust and then work on getting rid of the manual boost controller and hopefully eliminate any serious boost jumps.
I am also going to work on getting normal seats in there, because those racing seats are just darned uncomfortable. The driver side seat was a little busted and just leaned back too far, so I switched up the seats...I learned the bolt slots are different for each... I had to bend the bracket a bit to resolve that, but easily fixable.

Oh, also forgot.
I am leaking what seems to be coolant from the turbo. I called the PO and he said there is a screw that needs to be tightened *I wish I knew what screw...* and upon full boost, a puff of smoke rises from the turbo. PO also says that is normal as he is giving it a lot of oil for lubrication, so some gets burnt off. Both things worry me, which is why I am probably going to plan on getting an S5 Turbo/Wastegate sometime in the future.

You, sir, just spoke greek. I don't know specific items of the parts. I knew I needed a manifold, but....oil drain? Why doesn't the FSM have this info?!

Gotta love the retro machines. My friend had one just like it in black, and I wanted one, but didn't enough money, so I got a cheaper 87 Mitsubishi Starion. We both admired each others cars, but he always pulled away from me, and it was simply a better, more expensive car. Brings back the memories. Love it!!!

Heh, well, I don't plan on driving this thing on full boost until I figure a few things out. If I can limit it down to 12 PSI, will the stock injectors be at full duty cycle by then? I figure they have to be getting REALLY close.

S5 TAILs ftw. I wish I had an S5..they were some sexyness, plus I wouldn't have my boost creeping issues, probably. Stupid inferior wastegate.
Well, for some good news. I officially got the S-AFC II wired up and working. It was a 3 hour ordeal, but we got it. It sits nicely inside the ash tray, so it's out of plain sight. I just need to learn how to tune it...
Also, I found a SECOND boost controller hidden under my passenger side dash. I routed the hoses around normally, that way I can make sure nothing is stopping it. I'll probably hook it back up when I get my boost under control.

very nice color on that car. kinda reminds me of the mazda color, shade green. at any rate, it could use a good cleaning and i think that would help out wonders. get an oem shift boot and ****, clean up the wiring by the boost pressure sensor, new door panels, fix the logicon's face and secure the RB exhaust and it looks like you'll be set.
as far as the coolan leak by the turbo is concerened, check the coolant return hose. its a rubber hose almost in a "U" shape connecting to the turbo return hard line from the engine. i bought a new throttle cable for my 88 10AE form mazdatrix and it made a world of difference. keep us updated on your progress. if you have any specific questions shoot me a pm if you'd like.

Cool, thanks man.
I guess this is the wrong spot, but hell, I'll ask it here anyway. Would the Racing Beat REV II turbo back exhaust add enough restriction to help out my car, or would I need to go more with "stock"?

the REV II system is an excellent sytem that will provide everything you need in an exhaust. not sure why you would want any restriction...backpressure is only needed when you are using the 5th and 6th ports on a non turbo 13B and its used to actuate the ports.
