New 8, want it to run purrrfect

hey guys i got a new 8 this past saturday (04 gt 6spd) and ive been reading all the posts trying to figure out how to best take care of my car. (most of the posts that stealth writes lol)

but so far ive figured this out:
1. Oil - what's best? I saw a lot of people talking about Castrol GTX/High Mileage (and i know, i shouldve changed the oil already)
2. Premix - this is a huge discussion topic and i think id like to premix, i notice my car not idling as smoothly as id like, plus it wouldnt hurt to try and gain some mpg. i was going to go with the mixture of sauber professional synthetic premix 3.5oz with lucas upper cylinder lube (3.5oz) on a tank fill up (14gal) for a ratio of 256:1.
3. BRAKE DUST - boy this is upsetting me something fierce! my brakes squeak up to every light or stop sign and please tell me there is a way to get this to stop. Can good rotors/brakes get this to stop??

and i live in pittsburgh and this is my only car (my dad has the 88 rx7 and i had to get the rx8 as an homage to him) and i want to prep it to be fine to run in cold weather thats rapidly approaching so please any help in that area would be much appreciated too!

Be prepared for the onslaught of attacks from people telling you to search. Also, your post is in the wrong section. This section is for non RX8 related discussions.

The threads you've begun reading are good and informative. Continue to read them and feel free to send me a PM on any tough questions. Best of luck with your purchase and welcome to the club.

Paul.

Well id go with a thicker oil the 5w-30 at least

ive never premixed.. but i also have the the cobb.. which pumps more oil into the motor and actually smoothes the car up.

brake dust.. never gonna get rid of it unless you go with ceramic pad... Idk try some hawk pads they are really good. brake will squeel.. Idk why but something about the stock pads that makes them squeel...

mine squeeled at 2K miles new
again at 15K miles
another at 32K miles and recently at 40K miles lol

been good since

let it warm up before actually shutting it off.

Your oil and pre-mix choices sound fine, and the brake squeal goes away with time. I got some Centric rotors which seemed to help. The dust is a problem until you change pads - they are very effective, but dusty.

premix discussion will never be resolved. there is a premix thread 7,000,000,003 pages long and still debated whats BEST. but your premix sounds fine.

I recommend everything mentioned above too. The Cobb electronic mapper is hands down a great upgrade, and you get more horse power as well.

A lot of people will have different opinions on Oil - I use Royal Purple 5W-30 with a mix of Amsoil 5W-30. The moment I added these two oils, my car ran smooth, and the sound was different, to my ears - smoother than Castrol GTX.

For your brake problem .... I change to Hawk Ceramics , no more dust or squeal.
Pre Mix ........Everyone has an opinion

Ceramic pads would be perfect replacements to lessen the brake dust and squeal.. I'd recommand Hawk pads also!

I do not recommand premixing...but..hey...it's personal choice for most of us..

there are other solutions to major dust buildup other than ceramics which are designed for typical auto-x. hks hp+'s, gold dust pads, etc.... some MINOR brakedust, but not very noticeable.. google some pads and you will see there are numerous low/no dust pads without going ceramic... ceramic are loud and annoying for those not auto-x'ing. sounds like you are CONSTANTLY riding brake plate and rotor.

The reason why nobody say "search" is because this guy obviously done his search/research already. You think he came up with "saber pro" and "lucas ucl" out of thin air yeah RIGHT.

I use the saber pro (I have to order it online), and UCL that I find in stores. I keep experimenting with different types of "premix loads". Those 3.5 oz saber pro bottles, hold more than that. Like 4 oz. So I fill the empty ones with more UCL than premix. Not sure the ratio I just do it by feel and rotary sense. Sometimes I happen upon the magic number and unleash the full 238 horse available or even more.

If I run out of saber pro and forgot to order online, I'm not afriad to run to the store and get RP premix either. Just don't mix it up with the 5w-30 bottles I guess.

I thinkyou need to SEARCH.......for a good price on your premix(dont want to overpay) and SEARCH...... for a good deal on brakes pads. I would consider a mm ap instead of premixing though.

gl and congrats on the car,

Congrats on the car. I remember reading for weeks before I bought mine. It's a great machine. I have 15k on my 07 GT 6SPD. The brakes started squealing about 2k miles ago but have stopped for the moment (knock on wood), don't know why except the car sat for a month while I was recovering from knee surgery. I plan on replacing the pads and rotors soon, I HATE those noises and the 8 seems to have a lot of odd ones. That's my only complaint.

As far as checking the oil every other fill-up, it's a good practice as it doesn't hurt anything and will give you an idea of how much oil your car goes through (or if none at all and you have a problem). After the first few months I stopped doing this routine because I know what it uses. After each flash I check it again for a while though... which is another thing. Make sure you have the latest flash, that's important.

Congrats on the car. I remember reading for YEARS before I bought mine. It's a great machine! :P

FYI: I checked my oil level every Sunday morning... (so about every 2 fill up)
