New Camaro SS runs 13 FLAT
#126
How did you sit in an SS? Its not even out yet. Hopefully you sat in some prototype for display. Inside Line and Motortrend both agree the Camaro has the better quality interior between it and the Mustang, which they comment on having a HUGE upgrade in quality. I can't see the Camaro having that bad of an interior. Compared to an Audi maybe. The interior is a huge deal to me (the RX8 was the slowest list on my list of cars I wanted but the interior was what clenched the deal), so I hope the Camaro has at least a half decent interior...

R u facking serious? I sure hope you are kidding. Here's the car at the press event that I attended yesterday. A mazda3 GT's interior would dance circles around the Camaro. It is not even in the same dimension to that of the RX-8 which is old.
Here's the poor quality interior. The hard plastics have this appalling hollow tap... like those cheap plastic Koss speakers. Matched with horrible 70s ergonomics and you have an alarmingly bad interior experience. I guess GM is really aiming at the older folks or people with lower expectations. Apart from that the exterior is A1. Comes with AP Racing brakes too.
I judge the car by its overall quality not just one single measurement. I can understand that the Camaro's poor shoddy trims is OK with you considering your current ride is a Pontiac. But outside of GM, there are car mfg that delivers in more areas than just some fast straight line times. As a driver, one does spend time inside.
If the Camaro SS' price is not that high, I wouldn't be so disappointed.

Interesting. You said the SS came with AP brakes? Where do you live? I'm pretty sure GM uses Brembo's for Camaro's in the States. Perhaps GM also cut quality down to save money for the exported Camaro's. There's not exactly a huge market for these cars outside of the States.

I've heard similar rumors from people at the dealership. They said the interior quality is not that great but considering the performance you get its not that bad. I guess I'll have to wait until I see it and feel it with my very own eyes and fingers.

I live in Canada. Considering the Camaro is built here, us Canucks get first preview. Damn proud that it is built at the award winning Oshawa plant. Yes it is AP Racing. I wish I took a photo for it.
I feel that Chevy shouldn't just rest on the fact that this Camaro is fast on a straight line and leave the rest of the car with mediocre work. This sort of mentality is what kills the consumer (a discerning one at least) perception on domestic products. But there are exceptions such is the well rounded for its class Malibu and the G8. Hyundai could've done just the same with their Genesis Coupe which is priced lower than the Camaro but they didn't. They didn't forget that people do have to spend time inside the car.

Hell I don't know.

Well that would be weird because there are tons of cars here that have Brembo brakes. Doesn't matter. What's wrong with AP Racing brakes? Surely not as common and I know lots of racing company uses them. Brembo to me has become the 'Bose' of automotive brakes IMHO.

^low powered?
wat. HP numbers aren't everything...
the mustangs numbers as far as quarter mile is not that far off from the ss....
now as far as you saying the mustang is the worst looking of the retro cars....
they actually look pretty damn similar to me. So is a 67 mustang ugly to you? I think not. Granted....these are the GT 500's, but you get the idea.
^this thing pwns any stupid redesigned crappy ugly camaro.

NOW. The Camaro traps 111 mph. One hundred and eleven miles per hour. Do you have any idea how fast that is? The Camaro is 7-8 mph faster than the Mustang, so, a Camaro SS will destroy a Mustang GT as bad as the Mustang GT destroys an RX8. It's not even close.
If you need proof, just wait for the videos. They'll be all over the internet in a few weeks. It's gonna be ugly. The stock Mustang GT guys, even with those with 2010 models, don't want anything to do with that SS.

You have no idea what you're talking about. You probably know how bad an RX8 gets beaten up by a Mustang GT from a roll. Picture it. Thats what a 8-9 mph difference in trap speed looks like... the RX8 traps 95mph and the Mustang traps 103-104mph.

you know...I had something else posted here, but I edited it so I wouldn't start a flame war.
I will leave it at that

I want to hear the point you're trying to make. I don't think a stock Mustang GT is in the same league as a stock SS in quarter mile or from a roll. Somehow, you do?

I won't be offended. I started off with the inflammatory "You have no idea what you're talking about" just to get you to answer back. Just having fun with this.

I just don't get tied up in the numbers on paper so much. That's all.

The SS starts at around $30,995 and the Mustang GT starts at $28,845.
It's absolutely fair.
And the numbers on paper will translate. I guarantee it will. You can't get something to consistently trap 111 mph that weighs 3859 lbs without some real power, and being able to put that power down efficiently with some good engineering.
You can chalk that up to the chassis engineering done by Holden... not Chevy, not Pontiac... Holden. The same folks that make my "Grand Prix" GTO you like so much.

Well, the SS is the ONLY V8 model, not the top of the line anymore like the 4th gen Camaro. Now, if it's a Camaro and it has a V8, it's an "SS". The next step down is the RS with a V6.
The SS starts at around $30,995 and the Mustang GT starts at $28,845.
It's absolutely fair.

Everyone wants to compare the SS to the SRT8 and GT500.
GT500 - 43K
SRT8 - 40K
SS - 31K
